Booker introducing bill to remove Confederate statues from Capitol

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) will introduce a bill to remove Confederate statues from the Capitol following the violence at a white nationalist rally in Virginia.

"I will be introducing a bill to remove Confederate statues from the US Capitol building," he said on Twitter late Wednesday night.

Booker, one of three African-Americans currently serving in the Senate, added that removing the roughly 12 Confederate statues would be "just one step. We have much work to do."

A spokesperson for Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said he will work with Booker on the legislation.

Also voicing support Thursday for the statues' removal was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Considering the states are the ones who chose and presented the statues for the Capitol. But I applaud their actions in attempting to remove them! Hell, not only does Jeff Davis have a statue but Alexander Stevens, Mister "White Power"/"Cornerstone speech" has one as well!
