Democrats Are Preparing To Run Against Mike Pence In 2020

A Democratic group has resources and staff dedicated to targeting Pence. The initial research they've pitched to reporters confirms their strategy is to tie him to Trump as much as possible.

Democrats are already preparing for a possible 2020 presidential bid by Vice President Mike Pence, with a major group dedicating staff — including on the ground in Indiana — to dig up dirt on him, amid rumblings that Pence is positioning himself for a run.

American Bridge 21st Century — a Democratic opposition super PAC and nonprofit funded by liberal megadonors — is leading the effort, which started earlier this summer and kicked into high gear following a New York Times story reporting on Pence's "shadow campaign."

The vice president has denied having intentions to run, but he has been meeting with top donors and has set up a leadership PAC that has already raised $540,000, as President Trump continues to make comments on race and other issues that are making Republicans increasingly uncomfortable.

The group, which will simultaneously continue its focus on targeting Trump, has three staffers dedicated to Pence more than three years before the 2020 election. Bridge shared its initial round of research with BuzzFeed News, giving a glimpse into Democrats' early strategy against Pence, focused on denying the vice president an opportunity to distance himself from the administration.

"If he's running for president, we are going to be prepared," said Shripal Shah, vice president of the group, which spent nearly $20 million in the 2016 election cycle through its super PAC.

I never watch Chuck Todd on MTP Daily, but I just happened to see Jennifer Palmieri today as one of the guests on the round table segment, and Jennifer gets my bump on a pickle award. IMHO, she's never really been a good Dem spokesperson, going back to the 1990's. Dems really need to get some new spokespersons moving forward, because until we can get people who actually speak up, stay on point and are cogent, we'll continue suffering from not even having a message or from Republicans stating wrongly what our message IS.

Lord, do we have a message YET

Anyway, Palmieri gets my bump on a pickle award, AGAIN. She's horrible.

You could have put Al Franken, Jon Stewart, & Steven Colbert in a room together for five minutes & they would have come up with something better than A Better Deal. If the dems are trying to play off on A New Deal, it's not working.

He'll be damaged by a diminished Republican brand but he'll still be a formidable candidate.

Let me guess - they will do oppo research and make some painfully obvious observations (we think Pence shouldn't be able to get out from under Trump -- gee does that sound to anyone else EXACTLY like the Republican strategy of 1999 against Al Gore??)

Let me guess, they will make some million dollar ads that no one will watch because derp, we all have technology now (can fast-forward through ads) and will send out some glossy mailers that no one will read (because most people living in an apartment won't get it or could toss that shit into the can right at the mailbox these days).

And they will plant some articles that preach to the choir (rah-rah team or uh oh let's go!) on Salon, Buzzfeed and Daily Beast again. Yee haw.

But at least a lot of wealth will be transferred to print and media advertising execs. Woo hoo! What an investment!

Bullshit on top of bullshit.

Cambridge Analytica kicked their asses for a fraction of the money -- micro-targeted individual voters with precision messaging and persuasion arguments based on likes/dislikes and voter precinct.

but I'll bet our strategery geniuses in the beltway don't want to push that, because they don't want to offend these imaginary "values voters" who otherwise would pull the lever for a Democrat.
