Rant on Redditt about Americans vs. Canadians - Well worth reading

"I think the biggest difference is: I trust my fellow Canadians.

if the last few months have taught me literally a single fucking thing, is that Americans do not trust other Americans. They think they're moochers if you give them living wages, they hate the politicians they say they elect democratically but don't make any effort to change that system if they hate it, the immigrant ones are all here to rape women and take jerbs, you must have a gun in case the other guy has a gun so make sure you have 10 guns and if a toddler accidentally shoots you it's worth the risk because a black guy could come and take your material possessions. And black guys and brown guys are evil but also somehow simultaneously lazy and must be avoided and laughed at and kept poor so they can't do anything to you because money is power and they musn't have any, women can't be trusted with their own fucking uteruses because they'll default into sluts even though when they say they aren't they're femenazis, even when you do away with all the racism and sexism, americans still hate other americans because the "american dream" is to stomp over other human beings to get to the top which is the ultimate success. You work yourself to the bone and then you're rich and you can exploit others, that's the dream. That's what Trump is supposed to be: the goal. Zero responsibility and lush rich happiness.

the US was founded, literally, because the British wanted to take away the US's slaves, which wasn't allowed in Britain. Don't kid yourself- "it was about taxes!" yeah, on the shit fucking slaves produced!! The slave owners rebelled, got to keep their slaves for a few hundred years until british-y US clashed with rebel-y US, they fucking lost their slaves, and now they do whatever they can to keep people in a position of nigh-free fucking work by subjugation as much as they possibly can in every fucking stupid way possible- by keeping wages low, by right-to-work laws, by removing voting rights, or keeping them addicted to drugs, or busting them for harmless shit like weed, or keeping them poor because education and healthcare- the two things you need to prosper in captalistic america- are so fucking far beyond the reach of some people- and it's all because Americans just don't trust other Americans. The only unity Americans have, is in hatred of other Americans.

I would fight a fucking war for the privilege to keep paying money out of my own pocket for dudes I've never met so they could have healthcare and not doom their family to having no chance at education for the forseeable future. I think a universal wage would solve a shit ton of our society's woes. And I think capitalism is only good so far as there's a democracy- a functioning one- to control and curtail it, not the other way around with businessmen becoming politicians and paying fucking lobbyists. Americans fought a war to keep other humans their property, and even now they get angry on youtube and fox news because they still can't. We had nazis and klansmen and whatever fashy-hair-cut fucks literally march and then kill somebody because they hate eachother. Did you see the video of that pasty shithead going "I'm not a nazi! I'm just here because I like offending people!" what the fuck breeds that hatred and distrust of other people? I may hate the guy who cuts me off, and roll my eyes at certain people, and this country definitely has a lot of backwards uneducated hateful people, but this... this level of distrust and hated Americans have sewn into every fucking fibre of their society blows me away and until this election happened, I didn't comprehend it. Now I do.

So to sum up: trust is something we have that they don't. The US won't ever "be like Canada" unless the trust is addressed. To do that, the hate has to be fucking stood against. I'm seeing that happen now, so, maybe there's hope? Maybe."

There are more of "us" than there are of "them." "They" are roughly 30% of 200 million registered voters. 60 million people max, in a nation of nearly 330 million. Roughly 18% of the total population. We are not perfect but we are still whole. And it's still a pretty fucking amazing country.

Comparing Canada to the United States across the board is like comparing apples to oranges. We have completely different histories, governments and cultural demographics. Not to mention Canada has a much smaller population. Also, I don't think Canada commands all of the moral high ground, given the enormous environmental mess in their western provinces. That is a chicken that will come home to roost, someday.
