This is in my mind...

Trump: I have to let you go, Steve....
Bannon: I knew it was coming, especially after that Charlottesville thing.
Trump: let me talk Steve. I am not letting you go, Steve, cause I think you are doing a bad job. I think you're doing a great job. You know it's this damn media and the Republicans. Remember Steve we always said 'the base' is the important thing.Oh and our other friends.
Bannon: yeah I get it
Trump: Keeping you here makes our agenda harder and it is frustrating. What I want from you is to stay 'dark'
Bannon: dark?
Trump: yes, you will 'appear' gone to the public. We will say you resigned a week ago but I was reluctant to let you go like I was mulling it over. But you will still be my chief strategist, just in the 'dark' so to speak.
Bannon: and the media will have a field day with it.
Trump: yes they will. this way this crap will go away and it will make the Dems happy so they think. Some will think my ideology is changed and Kelly will think he is controlling things. This way keeping him off my back
Bannon: Kelly going to crack Don, I warned you before.
Trump: Kelly is a good guy, keeping him is good pr cause he is well respected.I'll be in touch.

That's entirely possible. He can do a lot more damage at Breitbart where he can work uncensored and not have to worry about being fired by someone.
