(7,539 posts)It's the easiest to cut into reasonably uniform squares, such as a child's birthday cake. If your workplace has ever passed out small plates of cake, they're cutting it from a sheet cake. Sometimes sheet cake is made with the same flavor as a "pretty" cake and is cut up first and offered so they don't need to destroy the nice cake right off the bat before everyone has seen it and taken pictures. This is especially true when an artistic cake would be difficult to cut into uniform slices.
