He was one of my civil rights heroes. His racially charged comedy changed many a heart.

(18,641 posts)His impact on me: " ...as the civil rights movement was kicking into high gear, whites who caught his club act or listened to his routines on records came away with a deeper feel for the nations shameful racial history."

(2,012 posts)was a joy and a privilege. He ran (he was a real athlete) up and down the long lines of marchers for civil rights and against war to cheer us on. He deserves a statue and our forever thanks for the stands he took and for his life.

(73,536 posts)He was an amazing man, who put his life on the line constantly in the 1960s. In the '70s, when it wasn't a popular "cause," Dick championed the Rubin "Hurricane" Carter case. In more recent years, he served as an honored Elder, passing on the wisdom of the ages. I loved Dick Gregory. Still do.
