Thats when she realized she won. She says he followed her home to make sure she got there safely.

(5,111 posts)Stories of lottery winners who los it all are brought out whenever there's a big jackpot. Usually those stories feature are the same people over and over. Truth is there are scores of jackpot winners who manage to hold onto their money and enjoy their live with no issues, but that would hardly be news worthy (or make the rest of us feel better about not winning)..

First: taxes.... set aside the cash necessary to cover taxes.
Second: celebration fund.... identify a wad of cash to splurge. Possibly buy a house, long trip, car, etc.
Third: annuity.... put the rest in an income producing fund and produce a yearly income with a growing principle base.
It's not that complicated, but most people don't do it, and destroy their wealth.

(2,337 posts)But I think the type to immediately come claim it in person isn't likely to be the type to make all those sound, sober decisions.
I wish her the best, but she already fucked up the first few steps (Wait a couple weeks, seek professional guidance, have an authorized party other than yourself claim it).
I like that a single person won it though. Hearing an office pool is splitting it seven ways always diminishes it for me somehow.
