They are maybe 25% of the voting public. And they will always vote for the racist Republican, whether they are overt like Trump or the dog whistle variety.
His base did not elect him, it was the fools who thought voting for a businessman or an "outsider" was somehow going to "fix things".
The only thing keeping his base does is making sure people will come to his rallies to feed his ego. They won't win him any elections.
The way his approval is talked about in the media, it's like he has to go below 30% to be in trouble. How low are they going to set the bar for him?
Let him keep his fuck, racist, Nazi base. Who gives a shit.

(33,576 posts)I don't want to seek their votes.
They aren't needed to win and will never vote for a Dem.

(51,590 posts)25-30% will stay loyal since they love his personality and not any issues particularly.
That percentage is not needed to change GOP reps minds about supporting him and his/their agenda. His base hates the GOPs in Congress anyhow.
We need the votes from those who didn't vote or were borderline in the last election to win in 2018. We must do everything in our power to do that...volunteer, donate money, get involved, etc.

(67,108 posts)like him. They are a permanent fixture. They will only vote for hatred, they love it, it's how their minds work. They need to be written off as sub-human.

(10,624 posts)As long as he keeps his base, Republicans in Congress are afraid to do what needs to be done in order to keep him in check.
edhopper
(33,576 posts)aren't going to do anything to him anyway.
His base will hopefully lose them the Senate by 2020, and maybe the House.

(10,624 posts)I think we're already in a slow-moving constitutional crisis. This is how republics fall.

(33,576 posts)I fear voter suppression and gerrymandering will make 2018 a long shot.

(10,624 posts)By now, the public has seen enough so that, in a sane world, 70-80% of voters would be clamoring for a change. But far too many of us are happy with what we have seen from Trump.
That's why I always try to make the point that Trump isn't the problem. He's just a symptom of the problem.
The problem is with the American people. There is a sickness there that must be healed. Otherwise, we'll never be more than one election away from a shitshow just like the one we have right now.

(63,221 posts)They are lost to us. It's pointless to try to figure out how to win them. These people are just hopeless idiots and racists.

(31,464 posts)Trump realizes he's f00ked as president, but he's trying to hold on to the last group of idiots who will give his next reality tv show astronomical ratings.

(41,978 posts)They are happy right now. They go to their family dinners and churches and vacations and tell each other that Trump is wonderful. Fuck them
