(3,847 posts)The damage to Houston will be as bad as Katrina, but I think people were able to evacuate earlier than Katrina. There are more interstate highways in Houston compared to NOLA and Mississippi. I think the damage amount will be early equal to Katrina, some of these people are former Katrina evacuees....they left NOLA and moved to Houston to start over. That is gut wrenching.
If I hear another "official" say 'this is a 500 year event'. This is happening every damn year.

(111,254 posts)was the government fuckup afterward that treated the city like a contagion zone and wouldn't allow people out or rescuers and supplies in for nearly five days.
This one is affecting more people over a much larger area but so far, it's 100% due to the storm and massive amounts of rain and not to HeckuvaJob Brownie and his nitwit boss Chertoff or any dimwitted successors. Once the clouds clear by the end of the week, things should start to recover.
