White Guy Lied About Being Stabbed by Black Guy for Having a Nazi Haircut

Remember a couple weeks ago when, in the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville, a news story went viral about a man named Joshua Witt ,who claimed to have been stabbed in the parking lot of a Steak 'N Shake for having a Nazi haircut? It was catnip to the Fox Newses and Alex Joneses of the world, who used it as evidence that people should be terrified of anti-fascists. (Also black people, because after all, that is the subtext of so much of what Fox News is.) The only problem? According to BuzzFeed, dude made the whole thing up. So you'll recall Witt's version of events at the time:

"I was just getting out of my car to go get myself a milkshake and the next thing I hear is 'You one of them neo-Nazis" as this man is swinging a knife at my head over my car door," Witt told BuzzFeed News at the time. "I threw my hands up out of natural reflex and then I kind of dived back in my car as the suspect took off running."

And how did the police discover that Josh Witt was full of shit? Well, it turns out there were some major inconsistencies with his story. Like for instance, the fact that there was surveillance footage that showed no such attack happened. There was no person seen running away and Witt had just moments earlier bought a knife at a near-by sporting goods store. So the police confronted Witt. And what did he do?

"Mr. Witt subsequently admitted to accidentally cutting himself with the knife while parked in his car in front of the sporting goods store and admitted making up the story about being attacked," Sheridan police said in their statement.
