The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood's list of 14 beliefs, referred to as the Nashville Statement, is a response to an increasingly post-Christian, Western culture that thinks it can change God's design for humans, according to the statement.
"Our true identity, as male and female persons, is given by God. It is not only foolish, but hopeless, to try to make ourselves what God did not create us to be," the statement from the coalition members reads.

How about this for a new rule - Old white men who cheat on their wives repeatedly don't get to condemn the sexuality of others, OK?

(14,921 posts)Just because they held their damn hatefest here is no readon to tarnish our fair city. Too bad they didn't schedule it in June, which was officially Nashville Pride Month.

"Organizers of the Nashville Pride Festival are cheering a resolution passed by the Metro Council recognizing June as Nashville Pride Month.
.......
The resolution says that the city of Nashville is honored to welcome members of the LGBT community and their allies to celebrate a very special and important event honoring the diversity, inclusion, and history of the pride and gay rights movement.
The resolution also says that the celebration and movement continues to grow and celebrates inclusion as a necessary ingredient to making Nashville and the United States truly diverse. Nashville Pride has grown immensely and is now one of the largest public weekend festivals in Middle Tennessee, reminding us to embrace what makes each individual unique and to use those qualities to change the world for the better.
More than 20,000 people attended the festival year.
This year, Bridgestone is again the main sponsor. Other sponsors include Nissan, Delta, Opry Mills, Sams Club, Dollar General, First Tennessee Bank, U.S. Bank, Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, among others.".....(more at link)

(48 posts)because they split with the other Baptists over whether slavery is moral.
Tanuki
(14,921 posts)repudiated that. They weren't the only ones who engaged in/supported slavery in the past. Your post, stated in the present tense, indicated that "these groups defend slavery," as if they are doing so now. I am not aware of this in the present day. If you are, I would again ask for a reference.

(48 posts)Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life."
Tanuki
(14,921 posts)do a lot of cherry-picking. For all their many faults, the people in the OP nonetheless do not "defend slavery," as you claim, any more than they "defend" an adulteress being stoned to death, even though you will find that decreed in the book you cite.

(14,861 posts)because that isn't what they mean. They mean "marriage is between one man and one woman at a time". They aren't squawking about about the evils of remarriage after divorce. He allowed for a few exceptions, but Christ very clearly called that adultery, and adultery is one of the Big Ten. Of course, they would lose money if they said, since so many of their followers are divorced and remarried.

(28,270 posts)They themselves and most of the people in the church have been married and divorced many times and/or just lived with a SO.
If the republican prosperity preacher started railing about that and driving them out of the church it would empty quickly and bye bye 10 million dollar mansion and private jet!
So they choose a minority to persecute and discriminate against like gay and transgender folks. That way the have a scary demonized boogeyman to scare the rubes with and all the $$$ keeps rolling in every Sunday.
