Once Harvey Peters Out, And That Time Is Near,

We'll see less and less news coverage of its effects in the news. A couple of weeks from now, coverage will all but vanish, with just a report now and then of the problems people are having. The media will move on to examine the next big story in minute detail, while Houston and other areas affected by Harvey get ignored more and more.

Sadly, this is what happens in a nation as large and eventful as the USA. Despite the fact that the needs of people in the affected area will actually increase over time, news coverage will decrease. Parts of the Houston area will not be restored to any semblance of normalcy for months or even years. But, the rest of the nation won't be hearing about that very much.

If we can try to remember, and can respond to the continuing need, that will be a big help. The needs will be great and cannot be filled just within the state of Texas.

well put, and very timely. I think it is a good challenge to DU to keep track of how things are going and continue to elevate ways that we can help.

2. What really irks me is MSM is often so damn fixated on one thing at a time, especially

MSNBC. And then often the next newscaster just repeats what the last one said. Hence, I obtain information from a variety of sources, but that said, M$M is damn fixated on one singular event at a time. Hence, Houston will, as you said, be forgotten.

I have lots of colleagues there, and those whom I've been able to connect with have said that the HFB does great work which will be sorely needed in coming months.

Here's a link if anyone would like to donate:

and in some areas there are still boarded up shells of houses overgrown with weeds — from Katrina, 2005.

The hardship has just begun in Houston.

The 8 counties of the Houston area alone is the size of New Jersey.

Houston has been estimated to generate a 10th of America's economy.

We may forget the people, but we will all be paying the bill.
