(15,220 posts)So many times....so VERY many times on DU, I shriek with embarrassment at the likes of idiots from Texas. The Trump supporters. The politicians. The mega-churches, etc.
But THIS....THIS makes me proud to be a Texan. THIS is the real Texas. These are the REAL Texans.
Thank you for posting this. Made my day.

(11,949 posts)I loved seeing the Cajun Navy doing their best to help.
I realize they are 95% trump voters, but good deeds are good deeds.
And no one can deny that we REALLY need strong and big government in the aftermath of this disaster. Well lots will, but not those affected.
Have a nice evening

(15,220 posts)They are most appreciated. I've heard many wonderful things about them, not via media, but via friends who are in the trenches.
Texas is grateful!
You have yourself a good evening, too.

(43,161 posts)I recall after Katrina, I sold a bottle of Jamaican Curry powder to a restaurant in Minnesota. The guy asked me: do you have 12 more bottles of this?

(6,017 posts)Visibly trans & non-binary people especially. It's bad enough that there are separate aid funds being set up within the communities.
"trans, intersex, and genderqueer individuals have historically experienced significant difficulties in natural disaster situations,"

Also, many established shelters that provide social services in the region are associated with churches & have discriminatory policies that exclude LGB & especially T people.
