A Flying Cowboy Rides to Rescue Cattle Stranded in Harveys Floods.

The devastating rain put thousands of animals at risk of drowning,
but a cowpoke in a helicopter is helping drive them to higher ground.

BAY CITY, Tex. — “I’m gonna mash ‘em out.”

Ryan Ashcraft spotted some cattle loitering in standing water under a clump of trees and came out of a long, sweeping curve in his small helicopter to drop toward a clearing so narrow it seemed the blades might give the treetops a haircut — and potentially send Mr. Ashcraft and his passenger on a one-way trip to the afterlife.

Mr. Ashcraft, 22, dipped toward the cattle and then pulled up sharply and hovered; the maneuver made the blades produce a sharp POP-POP-POP-POP-POP. The animals hate the noise, which puts many of them on the run.'>>>

It doesn't look good but he hasn't really been in the fields yet. Then I was wondering about the rice crop, maybe it's already harvested. That whole area between Houston and Port Arthur is rice country. Nobody knew about that, so the conversation turned to livestock. They showed dogs, deer and horses rescued on TV but didn't mention cattle. Good that daredevil Mr. Ashcraft is doing his part to drive them to high ground.
