Karl Rove: Obama's Attacks on Romney are "Gutter Politics of the Worst Chicago Sort." As opposed to

1. Bringing down John McCain with a PUSH POLL claiming McCain's adopted pakistani daughter is an illegitimate child he had with a black woman; and starting a whisper campaign that he's been mentally unhinged since his stay in the Hanoi Hilton.

2. Bringing down Justice Mark Kennedy, who sponsors an orphanage, and has lots of pictures of himself with his arm around orphaned boys by starting a whispering campaign that he's a pedophile.

3. Bringing down Don Siegelman by colluding with State Attorneys to get him thrown in jail on a trumped up charge so that he can't unseat Bob Riley in Alabama. (Kudos to Rove on THAT one! It was America's first bona fide case of a political prisoner! The Bush/Gore victory was a coup d'etat, but it was pretty subtle. Using legal thuggery to get your political opponent thrown in PRISON...man that's kicking political ass SOUTH AMERICAN style!)

4. Planting a bug behind a picture in his own Texas office, and colluding with a redneck FBI agent to blame it on the Democrats.

5. Getting Ashcroft and the DOJ to allow a Texas Redistricting that would guarantee a permanent Republican majority in Congress years ahead of the Census, and then getting Federal Detectives to hunt down the fugitive Democrats who were hiding in another state, and force them to vote on it.

.., all of which represent "Gutter Politics of the BEST Chicago Sort!" Rove's complaint about the Obama campaign's attack on Romney is that it's just TOO DAMNED AMATEURISH, and gives political hit men a bad name! It's like all those dumbass Russian politicians trying to kill each other with radioactive sushi and DDT-poisoned BORSCH! WTF? What happened to the good old days when they used to kill their political opponents with ricin-saturated micropellets fired from compressed air-powered umbrella guns? Show some PROFESSIONALISM you guys!

Segretti recruited Karl Rove, the executive director of the College Republicans, to work in this dirty tricks campaign. In the fall of 1970, Rove had used a false identity to enter the campaign office of Democrat Alan J. Dixon, who was running for Treasurer of Illinois. He stole 1000 sheets of paper with campaign letterhead, printed fake campaign rally fliers promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing", and distributed them at rock concerts and homeless shelters, with the effect of disrupting Dixon's rally.

"Rove conducted one session training young Republicans to sift through the garbage of opponents. In the Watergate scandal, Segretti was sentenced to prison for forging campaign literature. The FBI questioned Rove, but dropped its investigation of the small fry. Yet he would become the greatest "ratfucker" of them all."

As a protégé of Segretti, Rove helped to paint Nixon opponent George McGovern as a "left-wing peacenik", in spite of McGovern's heroism during World War II piloting a B-24.

"people" mean no more than a fly on a leaf...it is about winning at all costs..

If a pig were running his tactics and rhetoric would be the same..

Thanks for sharing a piece with a lot of important points in it. As a resident of Alabama, I especially appreciate the part about the Don Siegelman. He is scheduled to be resentenced in early August and is likely headed back to prison, for a crime he did not commit--and for a crime that does not even exist, under the law.

A lawyer in Mississippi named Paul Minor already is in prison under circumstances similar to those in the Siegelman case. Minor's crime? He was one of the largest donors in his state to Democratic candidates.

Karl Rove and the Bush administration have given us a taste of what life might have been like under Stalin.

Not only did the GOP cheat by jimmying the Deibolt voting machines after midnight to get Siegelman defeated in the first place, but then getting him thrown in prison so he couldn't run against Riley the second time was really incredible. That's about as close to 1970s third world politics as you can get without actually SHOOTING your political opponents.

will DRAW ATTENTION to the ISSUE again!

If this gets dragged into the mainstream media as an election issue it would make the GOP look incredibly bad, AND it would have the obvious benefit of keeping Siegelman out of an orange jump suit he doesn't deserve to be in in the first place.
