How does that affect Mueller's investigation? Remember Denis Voronenkov who had a similar "accident" a couple months ago when he was going to squeal on Manafort? I refuse to put it past them to take out the man himself, and I think this is the reason behind his not having flipped yet. But the question remains, Does Mueller actually need Manafort to give testimony, or would his testimony just expedite the process?
Edit: I'm not trying to promote a conspiracy theory. My concern in asking this is to find out if Mueller really needs Manafort as a live witness. I have no idea what having a live witness versus only documents means in a case like this.

(21,815 posts)The documents can tell a story without Manafort. They can be authenticated through the banks or other sources they lead to.

(17,984 posts)Is he just stalling the inevitable? I like to think there is more to it than that, like there are some blank spots in the story line that Mueller needs filling in.
Yes, I realize this is speculative. My original intent for this post was to ask if having him as a live witness was essential to proving Mueller's case. If he isn't alive, then are those documents circumstantial?

(17,984 posts)I want to know if Mueller needs him alive to give testimony in order to finish his case. If Manafort is the linchpin, can cases be brought against tRump, Pence, etc solely on the basis of existing documents.
I might as well have said, "If Manafort flees to another country". The circumstances don't matter. I only want to know how much weight his testimony has, how necessary it is.

(51,365 posts)isn't Nixon either...he is even crazier and worse in so many areas and on so many issues (personal dirty financing/income, mob connections, treason, nepotism, ethics, etc.). The Watergate criminals and major players served some time in jail...not nearly enough considering the magnitude and extent of their crimes. Will Manafort allow himself to go there out of duty to the fake prez? Where does his loyalty end and saving his own ass start?

(17,984 posts)And this excitement over the possibility of indictment has everyone on edge. Still, does it mean that Mueller needs Manafort's testimony badly, or is he trying to put the screws to everyone else who will potentially need to testify?
What you've said raises another issue. Is he really concerned with tRump at this point? I mean, we have tapes of Manafort and Pence, too. Maybe he is trying to save dozens of others and tRump could be expendable to keep more important people in power.
