General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe bots and ad the Russians used in 2015-2016 were done with almost pinpoint precision.
Those FB ads targeted specific communities and groups. It is not enough for the Committees to see those ads. The public needs to be able to see exactly how they were conned, exactly what lies and misinformation was put out there. They need to know how they were fooled (even though they will not admit it to themselves or their friends). They need to see how they were duped and played like a fiddle.
Most importantly, they need to be told how the information was gathered, produced, and targeted and by whom. Exposure is the most important way to prevent this shit from happening in the future.
It is becoming even more clear that there was some inside the GOP and/or the Trump campaign help in targeting the messages. AND there was money put into play from not just Russia...I'm thinking maybe the Mercers, Kochs, Adlestein, etc. If so, they too are guilty of treasonous behavior. I hope Mueller goes to the bottom of the pit and digs out all the info.
i think we need to begin to petition Congress to make that information public.

In this context is just reminds me of the old saying, people are always preparing for the last war. We are already at war of sorts with Russia, and unless the Cheeto head pushes the button, I think its more likely the next big war will be a cyber war.

(6,043 posts)The first lesson is that there is no declaration of war in cyber war. The strategy is to keep the target ignorant of the war as long as possible and confuse the target. Deflect, deny and continue the attacks.
If the target suspects that war has been declared, the attacking nation denies, even while continuing war actions.

(51,590 posts)Look at how people voted (or didn't) in the last election. We have become a society of self centered and apathetic people. Now, if you took their precious social media away from them THEN they would take notice and become interested.

(762 posts)The Mercers are heavily involved. The question is whether Mueller can find the proof and whether the Ultra-rich Mercers will be prosecuted under our dual justice system (one for the rich and one for everyone else).Probably the Devosses are involved , too.

(17,984 posts)The fact of the matter is that data-mining and psychographic profiling are completely legal and the way of the future. I think this is how the monopolies must have felt before the anti-trust act. There are maybe two large companies controlling politics. It's up to us to get Dems back in control and pass some legislation regulating their influence.
