Almost every Trump voter I know bought into and/or repeated the lie that the Clinton Foundation was corrupt.
Hillary's biggest mistake was to not blast national ads defending the Foundation.

From the country's two largest and most trusted charity watchdog groups.
89% of our revenues spent directly on charity... higher than United Fund, higher than March of Dimes, among the highest for any large charity.
When you hear Fox News and other sites badmouth our Foundation don't believe them. Believe the facts.

(17,863 posts)One of her PACs should have taken this on to avoid any issues with spending charity cash. She continued to allow others to frame the narrative.
Pictures speak louder than words. The PAC could have produced slick television spots including interviews with those benefited by her charity. Perhaps even a documentary that would appear in the September time frame.
She should have also made available whoever was involved with the finances in a question and answer period with the press including follow up of any questions that could not be answered at the time.

(54,770 posts)By the general election, it was pretty much "truth" that even Democrats questioned her Foundation. In fact, they were spreading BS about Clinton funneling foreign money for favors. At that point, there was no way to counter when Trump was merely repeating what Democrats who opposed Clinton had said.
That's what ticks me off royally.

(16,646 posts)Usually, in politics, people form opinions and then accept the facts that confirm them and reject the facts that don't. The Clinton Foundation myths merely re-enforced the preconceived notion that the Clinton's were scheming opportunists. Even if one could debunk the myths, they'd just focus on something else.

(15,805 posts)the Republicans would have been screaming how she was promoting her business and trying to solicit donations to enrich herself because the whole thing was a scam. Never mind that Trump can do the same thing, he gets an automatic pass... IOKIYAR, you know. If she took the high road and ignored the baseless charges then Republicans would have been screaming that she was covering out some nefarious scandal.
She was in a no win situation, and she chose the high road, probably reasoning that if she remained silent they would have nothing to use against her.
