Texas has gone totally crazy for the President of the United States. The President has just concluded his remarks in front of more than 1000 folks who paid a minimum of $250.00 for the luncheon. I admit--I did not get a chance to be inside of the hall--but in looking at the live stream after the President's remarks concluded--it was evident that the President was a smashing hit inside. But--equally compelling--the view outside of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center was bad--very bad--extremely bad--for Mitt Romney...
I used my lunch hour to become a part of the crowd in front of the Convention Center. Trust me--I have been witness to several Presidential visits. When President Clinton came to San Antonio several years ago in support of Garry Mauro, who was running for Governor against George W. Bush--hundreds of people lined the streets--block after block--holding up disgusting signs--mocking President Clinton--with their usual bullshit and crackpots taking center stage.
I figured the local Tea Party kooks would be dominating the scene outside of the Convention Center.
I imagined that there would be a whole ton on Mitt Romney signs, bumper stickers, etc, dominating the news cameras outside the hall.
Nope.

(63,912 posts)I know that sounds sappy, but I just love to see the crowds smiling and cheering. I like to contrast them with those I see for Mitt Romney where the people look depressed, yawn, search their backpack, try to stay awake...

(7,290 posts)But I don't see it changing enough in four months to go Democratic for President Obama. Anything can happen, but I don't see it happening this year.

Wouldn't have minded being a face in the crowd.

(1,033 posts)Texas is starting to look more purplish as of late. I am in no way expecting Obama to win Texas, but maybe as soon as 2016 Texas will become a swing state. And within a couple election cycles after that, it could be a solidly blue state.
If the GOP loses Texas, it can say goodbye.

(7 posts)Ask anyone that lives here... this state is becoming more blue by the second!! I think if Texas residents voted at the same proportions people do in California, it would already be a BLUE state. I'll try to link my blog post here. #ThinkSwingTexas!!
