Let's call it what it is...

Propaganda

`````````````
"Propaganda is the spreading of information in support of a cause. It’s not so important whether the information is true or false or if the cause is just or not — it’s all propaganda."
Propaganda used to be dropped from planes. Now, it is delivered via the Internet. Which is much more invasive.
How do we deal with this viral threat?
No one owns the rights to propaganda, it's often very positive, and is a necessary aspect of any good movement.
If you encounter propaganda you don't like or that includes lies then correct the record or rebut to the best of your ability.
What about those people that just ingest it on a daily basis? How do we combat that?
I don't see what else there is in this area. Propaganda is not inherently bad.
Fake news is an inherently insidious form of propaganda. The only thing I can think at the moment is to lobby corporations like facebook to label some outlets as news and some as entertainment(or something of the sort). That in itself would prove to be difficult.
I am on board with you that it is a serious issue. I don't want you to think I am negating it.
The "Information Highway" has become the "Disinformation Highway." For those that live to be greedy and ruthless and to exploit those that are not.
It depresses me that the drive for another dollar in the bank is so much more important tham morals, ethics, empathy....I could go on. I simply don't understand people that lack the ability to care about anyone other than themselves or getting more and more money. I never have.
I'm not sure we can do anything at all to overcome it.
Man....I am so depressed.
