The political pressure on Mitt Romney to release more of his personal income-tax returns is causing divisions inside the GOP presidential candidate's camp, according to a Republican strategist.
While some advisers are arguing privately that the former Massachusetts governor should release additional filings to curb political fallout, others are resisting, reflecting the candidate's longtime reluctance to publicly disclose information about his personal finances.
Kevin Madden, a senior adviser to Romney, would not discuss internal debate about strategy but said only one opinion matters.
"The final voice on this is the governor's, and he's made it very clear that the two years that he's provided represent going above and beyond what's required to be disclosed," he said.

(945 posts)If he does not release the returns, he'll come off as deceptive with something to hide. After all this, if he does release them, he's going to appear weak and bending to the will of others - not necessarily a strong suit for a POTUS.
He'll have to find a way to get out of this with his pride intact. He's a politician, so he may be able to do it, but I'm hoping against it.

(36,063 posts)caving in to the demands of the Obama campaign would be weakness.
It says something about Mitt's world view. He's got dozens of high profile media heads completely ready and willing to defend whatever looks bad in those records. The sooner he releases the records the sooner they get to go to work.
But it seems Mitt doesn't trust members of his own party.

(3,653 posts)Mr KGB can't wait to put Mr Bain into a tight spot and test him. We should be frightened because Romney is showing, plainly, that he can't see beyond the values and methods learned through a life of spoiled privilege. He's a lousy manager who botches simple situations.
