Carter Page pleads 5th ... wont testify

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/10/carter-page-russia-probe-243648

Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, informed the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that he will not be cooperating with any requests to appear before the panel for its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and would plead the Fifth, according to a source familiar with the matter.

A former naval-officer-turned-energy consultant, Page came under fire last year after reports emerged that he had met with high-level associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in 2016. While Page denied those meetings occurred, the Trump campaign distanced itself from the adviser not long after, with former officials saying that Page and Trump had never met.

If you find yourself talking to a legislative committee and there is even the slightest chance that just one member of that committee would like to see you in jail - even if you have done absolutely nothing wrong - plead the Fifth. If the committee wants your testimony, insist on immunity.

If a cop or prosecutor reads you your rights and tells you that you have the right to remain silent - remain silent. I don't care if you are as pure as the driven snow - plead the Fifth.

If a cop reads you the Miranda rights, you are a suspect. At that point, I don't care what your momma told you. The police officer is not your friend.

Why should they give Page a deal, or even Manafort? Mueller's guys can prove it all without their testimony.
These guys are all gonna be convicted and go to jail, adjoining cells with Trump himself.

Russia, coercion, etc. No wonder he's taking the 5th. I would too, in his position. That is, if I ever had colluded with Russians to interfere with U.S. elections.

32. 716. Use Immunity, Transactional Immunity, Informal Immunity, Derivative Use

Oct 2017
https://www.justice.gov/usam/criminal-resource-manual-716-use-immunity-transactional-immunity-informal-immunity-derivative

Congress enacted the use immunity provisions in 1970, replacing a myriad of specialized immunity statutes enacted over the years for specialized purposes, such as the Atomic Energy Act, the Cotton Research and Promotion Act, the Connally Hot Oil Act, and the Merchant Marine Act. The new statutory scheme (located at 18 U.S.C. § 6001-6005) provides a mechanism by which the government may apply to the court for an order granting a witness limited immunity in all judicial, administrative, and congressional proceedings. Section 6003 covers court and grand jury proceedings, § 6004 covers administrative hearings, and § 6005 covers congressional proceedings.

See Chapter 8 of the Federal Grand Jury Practice Manual for a more in depth discussion of immunity.

717. Transactional Immunity Distinguished

https://www.justice.gov/usam/criminal-resource-manual-717-transactional-immunity-distinguished

Title 18 U.S.C. § 6002 provides use immunity instead of transactional immunity. The difference between transactional and use immunity is that transactional immunity protects the witness from prosecution for the offense or offenses involved, whereas use immunity only protects the witness against the government's use of his or her immunized testimony in a prosecution of the witness -- except in a subsequent prosecution for perjury or giving a false statement.
