This week there's been an unsettling reality that's descended on the country like a cold, dense fog.

It's something that was blatantly clear to all of us here, but a lot of other people seemed to remain in denial about it for way too long.

The President of the United States is a madman, plain and simple. He's not right in the head.

And it's become brutally obvious over the past few days, with his reaction to Puerto Rico topping it all off.

He's a psychopath. No two ways to cut it.

4. I hope you are right. Definitely so for some of us ...

but I'm not certain that enough of us for it to make a difference at this point. I do think we are approaching a tipping point. Which way it tips is the question ... and a scary one at that.

5. A sociopathic malignant narcissist

who is allowed to stay in the WH because a republican congress would rather risk nuclear annihilation to pass a tax cut for themselves. This is more of a statement about Congress that the pResident. What kind of people can see that the pResident is endangering the health and well being of the entire country (and the world) and do absolutely nothing about it? They might be just as deranged as he is. We're in imminent danger.

they don't care about anything but money. More tax cuts, more deregulations for corporations, more cutting the social safety net, more war machine, more power to keep the money rolling in.

Each and every Republican from Trump down to your crazy RW uncle are degenerate vile corrupt evil assholes.

And traitors!!!

7. I've been saying this since before the election...

I can't post this enough...

couple trumpster fires dementia with this...

The Dark Triad

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_triad

The dark triad is a subject in psychology that focuses on three personality traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy.[1][2][3][4] Use of the term "dark" implies that people possessing these traits have malevolent qualities.[5][6][7][8]

Research on the dark triad is used in applied psychology, especially within the fields of law enforcement, clinical psychology and business management. People scoring high on these traits are more likely to commit crimes, cause social distress and create severe problems for an organization, especially if they are in leadership positions (for more information, see psychopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism in the workplace).

All three dark triad traits are conceptually distinct although empirical evidence shows them to be overlapping. They are associated with a callous-manipulative interpersonal style.[9]

Narcissism is characterized by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy.[10]
Machiavellianism is characterized by manipulation and exploitation of others, a cynical disregard for morality, and a focus on self-interest and deception.[11]
Psychopathy is characterized by continuing antisocial behavior, impulsivity, selfishness, callousness, and remorselessness.[12]
A factor analysis carried out at the Glasgow Caledonian University found that among the big five personality traits, low agreeableness is the strongest correlate of the dark triad, while neuroticism and a lack of conscientiousness were associated with some of the dark triad members.[11]

17. sadly, with psychopaths

they lack empathy, which means they are unable to weigh both sides of an issue or idea.

as a result, trying to reason with them becomes impossible.

psychopathy is one of my hobbies.

the one notion you have to dispose of when dealing with a psychopath is: they are not like normal people.

generally speaking their view of the world around them is: they are the center of it. they tend to be charmers, charismatic and generally, but not always, want to be the center of attention.

there is a test to see the level of ones psychopathy it's called the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised

http://www.hare.org/scales/pclr.html

and like spectrum disorders, psychopaths have a scale as well.

from my easy chair lol, I think trump is mid level overall but high on the narcissism and mid range on the Machiavellianism,

but you have to remember, a person could also be really stupid and also have the dark triad.

dispel the Hollywood belief that psychopaths are smart.

and that is what I think tRump is; a really stupid dark triad.

which in some cases is more frightening than a smart one.

just my two cents

20. psychopaths is nature, sociopaths are nuture...

he probably won't let go. he will probably have to be dragged out of the WH.

there is no way to really break the manipulation that he employs. It's just his nature.

now there are people who are born psychopaths but are brought up in fucked up house holds that give them sociopath behavior on top of their lack of empathy. aka sadists.

given from the few things I've heard about tRumps upbringing, it appears as if his father and mother were both cold individuals.

that alone, if even he wasn't born a psychopath, would have been enough to skew his view on life, but given his equally cold out look and cut and dry manner when it comes to anything regarding empathy, he strikes me as being a psychopath.

there is so much more to it than this but this is the very very basics.

did I answer what you asked?

21. No.sorry -

What I am asking is what does it take for the victims to lose their sycophancy...to stop believing the lies and bullshit? How does the fever /spell break for his followers? What has to happen in their consciousness for them to awken and turn on him?

26. ohhhhhhh, sorry.

well, that's a psychological field of a different nature.

that's dealing with group psychology/group think.

in my opinion from everything I have read on that subject, very generally speaking, it's takes speaking to individuals apart from the group dynamic.

think herd mentality. the herd defends the group. but if you are able to get one of them along, very generally speaking, and have an adult conversation with supporting arguments, most normal people will see both sides.

but as long as the group is criticized in general, the tighter the group will close ranks.

the best example from history is nazi germany. that's a classic example of group think.

remember this rule of thumb, it's never the majority that takes control, it's always the most vocal minority. everyone else follows out of fear.

that's why it's very important to stop that vocal minority in it's tracks at the beginning rather than letting it take control of the conversation.

Sadly, we are beyond that now.

once it gets to that point, it gets harder and harder to separate out the individuals to convince them to do otherwise.

if you noticed after the first charlotteville demonstration by the alt-right, right after that, social media started identifying the people involved. many came forward and started back peddling and denouncing the alt right. The very people they were marching with.

as time passed that will get more difficult.

again, just my two cents from my armchair.

Thanks - best summary psychological profile of tRump and likely some of his family that I've seen.

Also, one can easily associate many of those traits with current and past Republicans in Congress, and past administrations.

10. I agree, this feels like a tipping point.

I'm embarrassed by the apparently pathetic moral/professional weakness our incredibly expensive intelligence and military apparatus has displayed during this sneak attack.

"We can't do anything because Republican. Also, Racist -- our hands are tied! We're helpless!"

Fucking pathetic. All that money, all those resources, and we're like a damned flipped turtle on the highway.

Thank you Russians for pointing out how fucking stupid and silly we are as a nation.

Mueller's got very little time left.

29. American Psycho

My first real exsposure to Trump and his brand (the two have long been indistinguishable) beyond tabloids in the supermarket checkout aisle was in reading the Brett Easton Ellis novel "American Psycho". It was published in 1991, but I didn't discover it until probably 96-97. Patrick Bateman (the protagonist of the story) loved Donald Trump. Enough said.

As an aside, that book was truly a descent into madness. Amazing work. To this day it remains the only book I've ever read that I had to put down at times to take a breath or two after certain passages...it was that physically affecting.

I completely agree.

I too had to take breaks from it, because it was, at points, so stomach churning sick.

yes, Bateman's fascination with being like trump was very telling of that era for sure.

32. These people have a screw loose.

They've been programmed by their AM hate radio masters to hate liberals because they have a constant need to have a boogeyman. I've never seen a group as paranoid as the Christian right is. But having a boogeyman enables them and allows them to exert their control over the masses.
