(14,518 posts)Worse then high-power mowers. How many more boy-toys must we have to disturb our peace?
It's like loud mufflers - some men are so childish and insecure they think loud means manly.

(8,408 posts)First of all, I wish we could "blow" the leaves off our lawn. We have so many, it would be impossible. What I do use my leaf blower for is blowing them off my upper deck, front porch, back patio, and the walkway to the lake. This is why: We have these diabolical pieces of SOMETHING that come from one or more of our lovely trees. Stepping on these with bare feet, which we or our houseguests have walking down to the lake, causes immense pain. It causes my dogs pain. So I routinely blow the walkway to move those things, whatever they are (looks like a three-part nut, but it's not) away.
My leafblower is a work of art. I love it. Battery-operated and light, it does the job.

(8,408 posts)I don't want to put leaves in the trash when they can decompose in place. I SWEEP sometimes, but this is faster. Besides, sweeping will also toss particles around. We got it on sale, too

(8,408 posts)I wouldn't mind those pods from maples, I think? No, these things are small, hard, and evil. If I can find one outside, I'll take a picture.
Anyway, I use my leaf blower about twice a month. I don't do it at 6 a.m. Hint: I use it to clean inside of my car. Nothing gets rid of debris and crap in your car like a blast of air.

(61,727 posts)Supposed to be super high-powerdd, cutting a clean path five feet wide through a thick layer if leaves. Had a backpackyou stack on likd a proton pack from Ghostbusters. Looked like overkill to me.

(6,324 posts)My dad got me one of the new cordless ones last year, and that thing is great. Not noisy like a gas powered, no fumes, just charge the battery and go.
As for why blow the leaves- they get blown onto a large trap and then that is dragged down to where I compost them. I can blow them into place a lot faster and easier than taking.

(14,400 posts)kill the grass. When they get wet they rot and keep the light and air off of the grass.
Instead of blowing or raking them up I use the lawnmower, block the discharge hole and mulch the leaves up. These decompose more easily and its really good for the grass.

(14,400 posts)for me and takes less time than my neighbor and his blower. I think I'm really in the sweet spot with just the right amount of leaves.
