DeVos rescinds 72 guidance documents outlining rights for disabled students
By Moriah Balingit October 21 at 12:12 PM

The Education Department has rescinded 72 policy documents that outline the rights of students with disabilities as part of the Trump administration’s effort to eliminate regulations it deems superfluous.

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services wrote in a newsletter Friday that it had “a total of 72 guidance documents that have been rescinded due to being outdated, unnecessary, or ineffective — 63 from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and 9 from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).” The documents, which fleshed out students’ rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Rehabilitation Act, were rescinded Oct. 2.

A spokeswoman for Education Secretary Betsy DeVos did not respond to requests for comment.

Replace the word regulation with people and you have their true intentions.

It's not like they are all on Bitchy DeVos' side. I can see a lot of schools suing over this.

We had a co-worker who left our company to go work as her communications director. I didn't understand it because she was a smart, nice girl. I can't believe she is enabling this witch. I want DeVos gone yesterday.

They are just a cruel, heartless, miserable bunch of people. I hope that they are all being eaten alive by the meanness in their souls.

As far as I can tell, these are not the idea special ed laws themselves: They are details about how idea should be implimented on a student-by-student basis.

This may allow some clever charter schools to avoid some niceties of program implimentation, if they take the time to investigate them.

It makes my head swim.

As far as I can tell, these were created in the field to address questions schools had in what the idea terminology was referring to.

Idea is more or less like our pledge of alliegance: It states the philosophy, but not the standard boots-on-the-ground practice.

Remains to be see if some students will be left high and dry because of these rescinded recommendations. We'll know when schools point to certain ones at board meetings where angry parents are complaining....
