MORE:
Conservative social media users circulated an image of a purported Facebook post from 17 October 2017 which they said showed Gold Star widow Myeshia Johnson accusing Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Florida) of exploiting a presidential condolence call over the death of her husband, U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, for political gain:

Criminal impersonation right off the top of my head comes to mind.
I'm also thinking identity theft could also be applied since a fraudulent statement in the person's name was made.

But your concern is duly noted.

(51,787 posts)Kelly recounted how when he got a call about his son, that among the things he was told was that his "son knew what he was getting into, but that it still hurts." Kelly apparently relayed that line to Trump and Trump fumbled the line to "he knew what he was getting into, but I guess it still hurts" when talking to Myeshia, and sounded awful. Then when it was obvious he fumbled it, instead of apologizing, he went on the attack.
Watch Kelly's presser.

(51,787 posts)He had the widow in tears with that badly delivered "he knew what he was getting into..." line. He did not even say La David's name, he just referred to him as "your guy." He should have just apologized for how his awkward words were taken and moved on. Instead, he attacked Wilson all week, and now his minions are attacking Myeshia with a fake post. Trump sucks at his job. And Trumpistas suck at being human.

(30,821 posts)Because he doesn't understand the sentiment underlying what Kelly said. So Trump said it, then added, But I suppose you are still upset though (or something like that), suggesting the soldier basically asked for it.
Even Kelly's comments, said in the way he stated them, would upset families, in my opinion.

(4,423 posts)broader issue of the exchange, none of it makes sense to me. Don't call = OK, but Call and be offensive, has anyone asked why there was no direct feed back by the family listening, i.e., a gasp, a scream etc, if it were me I would have said hold on are you really that stupid to call us in such a hurtful manner, and we are going to be letting the media know about this offensive phone call, etc. Like I said doesn't smell right to me.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)How would you know if there was direct feedback by the family listening or not?
humbled_opinion
(4,423 posts)Congresswoman Wilson would have already brought that up, she was there why didn't she give direct feedback?
mcar
(42,439 posts)That the widow broke into tears and said of the Dotard: "He didn't even say his name." That's really easy to find.
mercuryblues
(14,552 posts)you are trying to defend trump with what ifs, I don't knows and saying the family or the Congresswoman did not do what they actually did do.
It has been reported that the widow did break down and cried that he didn't even know his name. He kept saying "your guy"
Family members reported they were shocked by the tone of the call and what was said. He never called the widow by name. The parents verified the Congresswoman's account.
But let's just ignore all the lies that have been coming out of the WH about this and argue what ifs.
Now this FAKE post circulating that Mrs. Johnson confirmed she did not write. There is only one side of this story that has consistently lied about what happened and it wasn't the Johnson family.
Now this is added onto the weight of Mrs. Johnson's grief.
humbled_opinion
(4,423 posts)episode is bizarre on so many levels, but the biggest question I have is why this family? 3 other calls were made and this family seems to be the one that was targeted for the insensitivity, but then again this family was the only one that also had a politician in on the receiving end of the call, so there is that. Strange indeed.
Denzil_DC
(7,287 posts)any grieving family that decided to publicize their negative reaction to a "condolence" call by Trump would be adding prolonged pain to an already extremely painful situation.
Why are you expecting them to do that to themselves just so you may be able to accept that Trump is lacking in empathy and incapable of expressing basic sympathy without making the situation worse?
mercuryblues
(14,552 posts)referring to as a politician has also been a close family friend for quite some time. Johnson graduated from her mentoring program. His 2 younger brothers are now in her mentoring program. So it is not at all strange that she was there for the family when during a time of need.

(49,064 posts)What are the offending portions?
Is there some video of tRump calling Mrs. Johnson?
Or is Matt Bruenig being imprecise and inaccurate by referring to the transcript but calling it "video"?
What does his tweet refer to, really?
SunSeeker
(51,787 posts)Although the soldier killed appears to be white, unlike La David Johnson, the widow in the video is a black woman. So maybe people are confusing her with Myeshia Johnson, which is maybe why the right is pushing that video to somehow suggest that is what Trump really said to Myeshia Johnson. But he called Myeshia Johnson while she was in a car on the way to the airport to pick up her husband's body. This video appears to be at this other woman's home, accompanied by other soldiers, as you can see in the video. It also appears to show that Trump has learned a thing or two about how to make these calls since his horrible call with Ms. Johnson.
Interesting how Kelly is not complaining about the release of this video of this "sacred conversation" as he termed these calls, when he objected to Trump's call with Myeshia Johnson being divulged.

(3,530 posts)Someone made a graphic that looks like a Facebook post. They didn't even do a very good job of it - they got the border style on the poster's avatar wrong. Also the time stamp doesn't line up with the call time.
Then they posted that graphic on other web sites.
This really has nothing to do with Facebook - other than some right-winger is trying to get you to believe that it does.

(3,530 posts)There was never any Facebook post.
Some right-winger made a graphic designed to look like a Facebook post, and then started sending it around via Twitter and other mechanisms.
They wanted to fool people into thinking that it was an actual Facebook post (which appears to have worked).
From the link you posted:
"The time listed is actually more than an hour before the reported time of President Trump's phone call, which was 4.45pm Eastern time."
In addition the profile picture shows a square image but Facebook introduced an update two months ago changing the shape of users profiles from square to round.
The creator of the image clearly used an older Facebook post as a template. They didn't update the profile picture format and they put the wrong timestamp on it.

Seriously guys, Frederica Wilson has known La David Johnson since he was a kid. He was in her mentoring program, and they stayed close after that. There's absolutely no way anyone who knows Sergeant Johnson would call Rep. Wilson a "so called politician."
And Trump would never say what the fake Myeshia (who is either Jared Kushner, or one of his minions at the Ministry of Propaganda) claims he said. It's not the language he uses.

(24,753 posts)Not sure if Snopes pointed this out - the default data format for a US user of Facebook would be "October 17", not "17 October'. I'm sure there's a way to change that, but I doubt most people would go through the effort.
Second (and I think Snopes did mention this), the Avatar picture is square, Facebook has round avatar images.
This indicates 2 things - A: The image is not from Facebook, and B: It likely originated outside the US.
