the best hoe cakes I ever had were at Lady and Sons in Savannah, GA.

This was years before Paula Deen even had a cooking show, much less was found to be a horrible racist.

But yeah, it's well worth your while to find a place or a recipe if you don't mind taking the health hit - lol, they ain't diet food.
