We're all doing what we can to change things. A few months ago, I attended an organizational meeting about setting up a chapter of the Democratic Women's Club of Florida in my county. 40 people were there, a huge turnout for my rural area.
The state needed volunteers to step us as officers so the club could be chartered. I, and 4 women and 1 man, stepped forward. We were officially chartered a few weeks ago, the 53rd chapter in the state! I saw so many fired up women and men at the convention. It made my Democratic heart feel so good.
Now we're working on getting our chapter up and running, supporting women candidates and women's issues and encouraging GOTV! Yay us!
This is my way of contributing. What's yours?

(145,291 posts)What you are doing is hard work and takes a ton of time. Working on the grassroots level takes patience and time.
Florida has been blue in the past and may become a solid blue state after (i) the influx of angry refugees from Puerto Rico and (ii) the restoration of voting rights to felons who have served their sentences (there will be a ballot measure on the 2018 ballot that is being supported by the ACLU and LetPeoplevote (a grassroots organization formed by the ACLU).
Good luck with your efforts

(42,334 posts)So many races here the R wins unopposed. We, and the local Democratic committee, want to at least have these people stand up at debates and be challenged.
It's a start.
Thanks, Gothmog!

(4,492 posts)The most frustrating thing is when the R runs unopposed.
I usually write someone in if that is the case (I have fun with my write ins-- Frank Underwood was one for awhile but I'll rethink him after what happened to the actor who plays him). I'll need to think of some more fictional politicians in the future.

(18,265 posts)My contribution is nowhere near as challenging as yours. I belong to our local woman's caucus, but my county organization is very vibrant, so I didn't have to navigate anything as complex as starting one up. (I just had to show up.)
Keep us posted on the progress.

(42,334 posts)I really wanted to sit on my hands but I just couldn't. Not after campaigning for Hillary and experiencing the women's march.
I don't have money to give and hate talking on the phone. But I can plan meetings!
Each to her own strength.

(18,265 posts)We helped put three Democratic women in office last Tuesday. Every one of them replaced an "R".

I will be a volunteer driver again this fall - in my rural area there are folks in nursing homes or out in the far reaches of the county that need someone with a minivan with 3 row seating to get out to the polls.
Other than small paypal contributions that's all I got.
Small beer compared to you. Congrats on receiving your charter
