A cop in Baltimore is gravely injured after being shot.

They took him to Shock Trauma, our Level 1 trauma center. He is there now. Details are hard to come by. Several tactical units are still in the area, now a six block zone, looking for the perp. Citizens in the area are inside their houses. Residents arriving after the incident are being kept out.

I don't care about politics in this case. A cop who went to work today may not return home. That saddens me.

Johns Hopkins is on the other side of town. Shock Trauma is close to the scene. Hopkins is great. Shock Trauma is even better.

10. 11 PM update: The officer is in extremely grave condition. On life support.

Family is with him.

He was shot in the head. Bullet to the brain.

Suspect still at large. The neighborhood (a high crime area) is angry - at the shooter.

11. The cop is a homicide detective. They were working a case. Knocked on a door.

No answer. Knocked again. The perp opened the door and shot the cop in the head at point blank range.
