Why can't some men go to work and just do their job? (edited)

Last edited Thu Nov 16, 2017, 01:50 PM - Edit history (2)

Go to work, do your job, and mind your own business. Is that so hard? Why do some men need to harass women? Why does anyone need to harass anyone? Plenty of women supervisors and bosses are bullies. What is wrong with people that causes so many of us to act like assholes towards each other?

on edit: I didn't mean to indict all men. Some men. I agree that the majority of men don't harass women. But enough do to create hostile work places. And women in their own way also can create hostile workplaces.

needs, and to see women as the "other." Our society and culture bully empathy out of boys at an early age and tell them that forcefulness and aggression in various forms are what they should aspire to. Our economy is built on the idea that might makes right. Our institutions and the very fabric of our nation were built by men for men. It goes on and on.

Inappropriate sexual behavior, dominance, violence, predatory behavior - they are part of our nature. Sexual aggression is intrinsic to male apes, because Testosterone.

Human history is largely a sordid tale of murder and rape that makes Chimp and Gorilla behavior look peaceful in comparison.

Reason allows us to overcome it to a degree through the ethical structures we've created in our societies, but the veneer of civilization is very thin.

I do get your point, except if I can resist the urge to scratch my butt because it's not appropriate in the workplace, why can't people resist the urge to sexually harass other people?

There are 7 billion people and a lot of urges. Nobody wins them all.

Most of us can stop ourselves. Some can't/won't, for one reason or another: money, power, privilege, sociopathy, etc.

Men cannot stop themselves from finding women attractive. They can stop themselves from acting on it inappropriately.
