(63,213 posts)I love those responses!
Person 1: "No one is talking about the Republican necrophile coprophage."
Person 2: "What do you mean? There are 100 threads about it right now!"
Person 1: "Like I said. No one of any consequence is talking about it."
It's fun to imagine that DU is the progressive pulse of the nation, or that our rants here have any tangible impact on the world at large. Yes, DU is a great tool for helping to organize and for plotting strategy, but the musings of a handful of anonymous internet nobodies (myself included) don't carry the weight of even a brief piece on an actual news program.

(615 posts)Wait read your erson 1 exchanges again. You cna't say "Like I said" and then refer to something you didn't say.
Person 1: "No one is talking about the Republican necrophile coprophage."
Person 1: "Like I said. No one of any consequence is talking about it."

(63,213 posts)Person 1's second line is obviously a clarification of their first line, because Person 2 foolishly takes "no one" as a literal statement meaning "absolutely not one person" instead of the figurative and colloquial meaning that every non-silly person is easily able to infer.
Consider:
Person 1: "No one likes salted caramel flavored Pepsi."
Person 1: "I do."
Person 1: "Like I said, no one with any taste likes salted caramel flavored Pepsi."
The larger point in the thread is that no one of any consequence has called for Franken to resign, DU's anger and disappointment notwithstanding.
"No one" in this context is figurative language used to make a rhetorical point, and this device is nearly universal in discourse among functional adults.
That's the extent of the time that I care to spend in explaining this basic element of human communication to you.

(111,098 posts)What would it prove if Franken resigned but Moore was in the Senate and Donald Trump was still in the White House?
Would it prove that the Democrats are more "moral" and less "hypocritical" than the Republicans?
I don't think so.
Republicans should make the first move on this, imo.

(16,387 posts)There are no "if true" caveats. If there is a pattern, then we can talk about what the next step is.

I love Al, and I really hope this isn't true. The timing is just too convenient. They are distracting from Roy, Mitch needs to ask the ethics committee to investigate Roy too, and tRump too
