AMC Theaters bans costumes for moviegoers (This is STUPID!)

AMC Theaters bans costumes for moviegoers
http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2012/07/20/560291/fox-proposes-banning-costumes-at-movies-amc-theaters-already-has/

This is stupid. I do not see 'what' banning costumes is going to solve.

The shooter went out of the exit door and retrieved his guns.

Banning costumes would NOT have prevented him from going outside to his car to get the guns and putting on his Kevlar and gas mask.

If they are going to ban something then they should prohibit parking in the back of the theater next to the exit door.

And put alarms on the exit doors to let security know that a door has been opened prior to an emergency

Because they surely aren't going to expend the $$ for more security, costly metal detectors, or even more staff to monitor exit/entrances.

So, this was their kneejerk response, even though it will ultimately do little.

It will also allay the fears of patrons who might be frightened by masked or costumed people who are in the theater. If you disagree with it, don't go to see this movie (which I wasn't going to do anyway).

About the only thing that might make sense is to ban weapons, but it seems AMC has already done that. Banning costumes is just knee-jerk nonsense. The only sensible thing to do is to fight the already growing moral panic and try to keep our idiotic impulses from costing us what liberty we have left.

To theater owners, who have a lot to lose if people are scared, it's real sensible.

You're just rationalizing restricting peoples' freedom of expression because some pencilneck in a suit is trying to steer blame away from his employer.

Real Americans should see this kind of panic-mongered flailing as an abomination.

Private businesses are allowed to institute any rules at all they want, including dress codes for admission.

Where has been the wailing and moaning about fancy restaurants that won't seat you unless you're wearing a jacket? Or bars and clubs that only let in the coolest dressed people standing in line? Do you even care? Probably not, if you don't care about going to jacket-requiring restaurants or kewl kidz clubs. (Nor do I.) Well, I don't care about crappy Batman movies ("164 minutes of anxiety disorder"--critic's quote from 3 days before the movie opened) or people who want to dress up in costumes to watch a movie.

In general, backpacks and masks are being forbidden to customers. Makes sense to me. If you want to see the movie, deal with it.

Freedom is also freedom for others not to be worried. Something big happened; copycats often arise after such incidents. This rule is perfectly understandable from the theaters' perspectives.

They are banning costumes because people might be frightened in light of the way the gunman was dressed. They don't want future theater-goers to panic.

In addition, the gunman bought a ticket while dressed normally, went to the theater, then to the exit door, propped it slightly open. He left the theater the normal way through the lobby. Went to his car where he dressed in all his gear, armed himself and then entered the theater through the exit door that he had previously propped open.

Shows we're of the same genre-ration? And we used to sneak into ATL's 'Film Forum' by the exit doors.

Though, I really did like how enthusiastic the fanbase was for it. I actually had no clue what it was going in. Not for me, but I liked the fanbase. Enthusiasm makes everything better. I actually thought about dressing up for Batman, but I couldn't find a decent looking costume.

I bet comic-con really confuses you, doesn't it? Most of the people who go to midnight showings are big fans of the franchise.

And if I could find a costume to fit me, I'd be a fat short Tony Stark at Iron Man III midnight.

Loosen up Francis.
