If moore is elected, does anyone really think mitch & republicans will throw him out of the senate? (Original Post) spanone Nov 2017 OP
They won't do crap! They will rationalize it all and say basically he's a good person. Republicans RKP5637 Nov 2017 #1
Nope, unless such action guarentees that the Governor of Alabama could appoint a republican still_one Nov 2017 #2

If he does what they want they will support him, but when he says something overly racist, misogynistic, or otherwise politically damaging to them they will be silent, or say he is still learning and to give him time, honest rookie (hahaha) mistakes. He will not be a party favorite, but he has an R after his name, so all is well.

If they tossed out Moore, there would need to be another special election.

Moore might try to run as a Republican and the AL republican party will have to decide whether to allow him to run. If they don't let him run as a republican, it's likely Moore would run as an independent, splitting the vote and leaving the door open for a Democrat to win. If they let him run and he gets the nomination and no one starts a write in or independent campaign, he could end up being re-elected and the Senate, having just expelled him, would be faced with the question of whether they should do that again.

Neither result is anything the Republicans want.

An even worse case scenario for the repubs is that an action to expel Moore basically cause the state republican party to split into two factions and in 2022, when Shelby's seat is open (given his age I don't think he'll run for re-election), a Democrat might have a decent shot at winning against a divided right wing.

the election outcome will mean that we'll never know the answer to that question. If Moore was to win, he would become the GOP co-poster child along with Trump. If anyone thinks the GOP's "Pelosi-Obama" quasi-stigmatic constant references during the 2010 mid-terms was problematic, they aint't seen nothin' yet. Trump pretty much sinks his party's ship on his own, albeit with proverbial survivors. With Moore on board, it will sink so fast and deep that the list of casualties would be staggering.

When it helps them politically they're all about "the will of the people." Otherwise, it's high dudgeon.

So they give more tax cuts to the rich, repeal the aca , criminalize women getting abortions, get rid of social security, Medicare and all other social programs that help regular people. A 49 -51 senate will be harder for them to advance their agenda so they will hold their noses and keep him there.

Sadly I think Moore will win. I don’t trust Alabama’s SOS and their voting machines that are always a reliable rethug favorite.

They will treat him the way they treat Trump. They will complain when he embarrasses them, but it won't go any further.
