I traveled across rural north Alabama today,,,,,

Madison County,,, reddest of the Red,,, not many political signs (to my surprise) but I counted twice the number of Jones to Moore Signs. I think the MSM and polling outfits are missing how pissed off women are. I believe Jones is going to win this thing.

this area has many Gadsden flags flying on their own poles in the front yard. BTW, I think Metro Bham is more progressive than Huntsville,,, there is a reason Trump is always in Huntsville when he comes to bama.........,and i believe voting records results will back that up

In the runoff, Strange only won four counties over Moore: Sumter, Madison (Huntsville), Jefferson and Shelby (both Birmingham). Moore took all the rest including Montgomery, Mobile and Baldwin.

I've been a 27-year resident. Madison County is only half native and the metro area influences the surrounding area. So, while the report is good (amen), it's unfortunately not conclusive. Fingers crossed.

Added on edit: On the other hand, Mo Brooks is our idiot representative, so there is definitely an unfortunate red stain stretched across Madison County.

I grew up in Madison County and was involved in politics there in my 20s. I traveled throughout Alabama while working for the University of Alabama and spent some time in many different rural counties.

Madison County is not red by Alabama standards. Conservative but not the kind of conservative that you'll find in rural counties in southern Alabama. The major reason is that since the 1960s, many people from outside the state have settled in Huntsville, the largest town in the county, who are linked to the space industry and other technology. High tech now drives Huntsville's economy. Education levels far exceed those in most of the South as does median income.

In the mid 1950s and at the request of the US government, Hitler's chief missile scientist, Werhner Von Braun and about 50 of his team of scientists settled in Huntsville to help the US with its space program. Von Braun was responsible for much of our early scientific leaps in development that climaxed with the Moon landing.

This work generated a good deal of the influx of tech people throughout the US and all over the world, particularly from Europe. That continues to a lesser extent today. I went to high school with children of the members of Von Braun's team in the late 1960s. They were all brilliant.

There is a sizable German community in Huntsville.

Still German restaurants. All the old von Braun team have died off, but lots of folks who worked with them are still around.

reports with a grain of salt. I saw significantly fewer of those for Chump than I did for either McCain or Romney, yet the Meat Goblin did way better here in Iowa than the other 2. Clearly, there was an embarrassment factor at work. Half of his voters probably showed up at the polls wearing "Groucho glasses"!
