Charges allege yet another Kansas City girl kept locked in room

Jackson County prosecutors today accused a couple of abusing and neglecting an 8-year-old girl who they locked in a bedroom, where she was forced to eat and urinate.

The case bears eerie similarities to one filed by Jackson County prosecutors last month, where a mother and her boyfriend were accused of locking her 10-year-old girl in a closet, where she was forced to eat and live amid her own waste.

The girl rescued this month, known in court documents as GW, had lived with the couple in Kansas City for four years. From the time she was age 5 to the time she was found earlier this month, at age 8, she had lost more than six pounds. Court records released today said she now weighs 42 pounds.

Prosecutors charged Jeffrey “Adam” Kraft and Michele L. Buckner-Kraft with assault and child endangerment.

The couple had legal guardianship of GW and her five-year-old sister, KN, who are their nieces. The girls’ mother left them with the Krafts and moved out of state, police said. The Krafts also had a 5-month-old daughter. All three children are now in the custody of Missouri’s Children’s Division.
