New York Daily News:"If we can't raise money with GoFundMe, we'll find another way. It will definitely be a group effort. It's not just one person, it's a lot of people holding hands," Jason Freeman told the Daily News.
Freeman, 41, said he was on a Thanksgiving walk in some Ohio woods when he learned the crowd-sourcing page set up by his friend John Jones had been deactivated.
The fundraiser reached $979 before GoFundMe shut it down and was meant to cover the legal, travel and burial fees associated with claiming Manson's remains in California.
If burial is that important, I'm thinking: stop at Home Depot for a shovel and then drive out to the desert.

(9,956 posts)...a burial place will be the target of vandalism. Manson should be quietly cremated.

(100,079 posts)That would want the negative publicity that comes with having that monster buried there.

(20,192 posts)If a burial and funeral were so important to the grandson he should have started saving years ago, not expect the general public to open their wallets.

(36,440 posts)Freeman is the son of Charles Manson Jr., who was one of three children born to Manson and his first wife, Rosalie.
Manson Jr. changed his name to Jay White to distance himself from his father. He committed suicide in 1993, in his late 30s.
Freeman said he used to blame his grandfather for his fathers suicide, but was able to forgive him after speaking on the telephone with him about eight years ago.

None want to claim him, though.

(33,956 posts)If the family wishes to memorialize him with disbursing the ashes, then they should do so.
If they just want to move forward, they can throw them away.
There just shouldn't be a memorial to this man by way of gravesite. It will just cause grief.

(11,843 posts)but there are enough people that would want to piss on his grave that the property values downwind would drop.
My dream retirement gig is to own the nearest beer concession upwind of Chenney's grave. Would be able to sell out of date Keystone at premium prices, Blatz as a top shelf upgrade.

(3,568 posts)His relatives don't deserve punishment for Manson's crimes. If they want to ask for help with the costs of burial, no one should stand in their way.

The state will give him a burial if no one else does. Let the state put him in the ground and be done with him.

(8,311 posts)I think his grandson should have every right to collect his remains.
And GoFundMe had every right to say "Sorry, we don't want to be associated with this."
I still don't have headstones for my father or grandmother, or the cenotaph for my grandfather, but they are all at least in the ground. And as far as the reason for a cenotaph being needed, we finally determined what alias he died under and where he's buried, but I don't have the cash to move him across several states to the family cemetery. A cenotaph will be sufficient to honor my father's desire to know what happened to his dad (he didn't before he died, I kept on searching in his memory).
