Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says he understands why Hillary Clinton decided to write her campaign memoir, What Happened, which was published in September 10 months after her brutal election loss to Donald Trump. But McCain, who suffered his own bitter defeat, to Barack Obama, as the Republican nominee in 2008, also knows that you cant rewrite history.
One of the almost irresistible impulses you have when you lose is to somehow justify why you lost and how you were mistreated: I did the right thing! I did! McCain told Esquire magazine for a lengthy profile published online Sunday. The hardest thing to do is to just shut up.
In What Happened, Clinton claims that the attacks Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., leveled at her during their Democratic primary battle caused lasting damage, made it harder to unify progressives and paved the way for Trumps Crooked Hillary refrain.
Whats the f***ing point? Keep the fight up? McCain said of Clintons tome. History will judge that campaign, and its always a period of time before they do. Youve got to move on. This is Hillarys problem right now: She doesnt have anything to do.

Oh, and as I have tweeted to both Hillary and her daughter Chelsea, NEVER stop talking please! There is a REASON certain groups want her to shut up, if everybody else would just think about it for a god damn minute.

(33,579 posts)That she won the popular vote and between voter suppression in key States, the Russians and Comey, Trump squeaked out the electoral college?
That is false?
Baconator
(1,459 posts)You said "She won"...
She had such a thin lead due to a long list of mistakes that all of those things you listed were enough to tip the scales even against someone as despised as Trump...
MrsCoffee
(5,801 posts)There was no "thin lead due to a long list of mistakes".
Time had just written an article that she was on the verge of an unbreakable lead. She had an 18% chance of losing the electoral college. The Comey letter almost immediately sank Clintons polls. It was the dominant story of the last 10 days of the campaign.
Pretending otherwise is just that. Pretending.
Baconator
(1,459 posts)... would suggest that Comey and his letter didn't have some effect on the polls.
My point is that her lead was so fragile that any moderate bump in road (which almost always happens) was enough to derail the whole thing.
A better strategy or a stronger candidate would have had enough buffer to take a hit like that against the most disliked candidate in the modern era. Except that his opponent was the second most disliked.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/08/31/poll-clinton-trump-most-unfavorable-candidates-ever/89644296/
Also, you contradict yourself in your own post... An unbreakable lead does not equal 18%. Those aren't even Russian Roullete odds.
MrsCoffee
(5,801 posts)Meaning an 82% chance of winning.
But nice try.
Baconator
(1,459 posts)That's a 1 in 5 or 6ish chance of a loss.

(1,459 posts)... and everyone had lined up in an orderly manner with no ugly dissenting opinions, and no one was mean, and nothing unexpected happened.
That was was the plan and it sucked.
The campaign was vulnerable from day 1 for a multitude of reasons and we shouldn't be too surprised when someone took advantage of it.

This is just one more asshat telling Hillary to shut up. It's okay for the "marish and parish" to talk about Russian interference and this godawful administration, but NOT okay for the candidate herself to talk about the trumpster fire.
