why Romney won't release his tax documents?
We know in 2009, the IRS offered amnesty to offshore tax cheats to come clean... if he had been involved in a felonious tax invasion, then he wouldn't have been prosecuted, but that would also mean he would be ineligible to become President.
Is it also possible that he could potentially anger the hell out of the top Mormon hierarchy if theyfound out that he had NOT been tithing his 10%?
Sometimes I wonder if Anne is a bit like Victoria Gotti....she has been walled off from the real business dealings, and thinks that Mitt is totally honest--
As a convert to the LDS church, it's entirely possible that she is more committed than he is.
So, he would lose 1. the WH. 2. The power and prestige he clearly craves. 3. control over his house of cards, and 4. respect in both his church community, and possibly family.

(15,237 posts)They just do not want those tax returns out there documenting all the free stuff as well as the start up capital.

(24,885 posts)but, you do have a point. It does fit in with "would those returns screw with the church" theory, though.

(7,044 posts)...I think lots of people with inside knowledge suspect that is in fact the case. And it is surely among the many reasons Romney and the Republicans are staying in the realm of the OCCULT - and preventing honest Americans from learning the truth.

I believe he's a simple tax cheat, a skank business man and a total amoral bastard. So is his wife.

(24,885 posts)that's what I mean; the elders, or whatever you call them in LDS, would be pretty pissed off, wouldn't they.

(3,248 posts)Or has he scared them all off with his righteous indignation bit?
I would love to see how he would answer a direct question on that.
JanMichael
(24,885 posts)one either. Is it possible that he is steering clear of unfriendly reporters?

(10,303 posts)And in some religious communities other than the LDS church 10% is the benchmark set.
Besides if the tax documents show he hasn't been tithing as apparently demanded by the LDS church... then he can choose to convert to a mainline Christian denomination. And that would be a very large can of worms opened.
JanMichael
(24,885 posts)and you are talking about kazillions. I disagree....it's just part of his "house of cards" that he has been juggling.

(12,412 posts)Could it be that his income has increased significantly under the Obama Administration?
If his returns show his fortunes grew over the last 4 years then his whole "the economy is in the tank" spiel is bullshit.
Show us the returns Romney!

(14,047 posts)Have many deductions, loopholes and tax shelters so that the super-wealthy can pay less than the 10% rate.
Placing high tithe rates on the rich just discourages "Soul Creators".
