My question is what is the (((restitution))) to American citizens? Let's say tRump and Pence are impeached, Flynn, Jared, etc. are locked up. We still have SCOTUS appointment that never should have happened, Obama Executive Orders that never should have been reversed, environmental regulations that never should have been relaxed.

There have been Americans sent to prison for the crime of lying about their cooperation with a foreign power, at war or not. The big Question then is: Why lie?
"Collusion is an agreement between two or more parties, sometimes illegal and therefore secretive, to limit open competition by deceiving, misleading, or defrauding others of their legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically by defrauding or gaining an unfair market advantage."
This could be applied to governmental policies, elections, foreign relationships around the world (American business dealings with Russia or policies in general with Israel). Flynn must have thought so when he lied.
MSNBC is saying there's an underlying story and that is "collusion" with Russia in the presidential election and removing sanctions.
There's an excellent, MUST-READ thread on this here:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029909294
Implications is that there's not only lying and a violation of the Logan Act, but big Obstruction of Justice charges.
Note that many in the press are ignoring the fact that Flynn was "colluding"/ "engaging in conspiracy" with Russia to circumvent sanctions laws while Obama was president. It was a crime then. He was not representing that part of the U.S. gov't then, therefore, this was done in more than just murky waters.

(37,648 posts)As Trump himself said, even if Flynn hadn't discussed sanctions w/Russia, Trump would have directed him to do that, because that was his job.
There is nothing illegal about Trump directing Flynn to "work with Russia."
The devil is in the details. Work with Russia to what end? For what result? To do what? In what way?
Sounds to me like Flynn is soft balling it so far. I don't see anything here to get excited about. Nothing leading to Trump doing anything illegal, except the obstruction charges, which don't involve Flynn.
Flynn says he was instructed to get with Russia to tamp down their response to the U.S. sanctions against Russia being announced, because the admin. wants a good relationship with Russia. That's not illegal...and doesn't sound like the truth, either. I recall reading at the time that the conversation was more like, "Hold on for now and wait...we're going to kill those sanctions."

The next President (whoever he or she may be) will have the daunting task of undoing all the damage that's been done in the last year. We can't undo Gorsuch, but the other stuff can and should be changed and improved. FOR SURE we need to revamp the Constitution, especially the 25th Amendment, so that other provisions are spelled out. We can't allow a situation like this to ever happen again.
I remember Watergate and all the stuff that happened and how it seemed to take forever. Really it was less than 2 years but it seemed like eternity. This (getting Trump out of office) is going to happen much more quickly I think.

Yes I agree that things need to be changed, and I mentioned it in my earlier post. I was referring to revising the 25th Amendment and also the Electoral College which will mean another Amendment. They usually take a lot of time because they must be ratified by 38 states out of 50. That's after both houses of Congress vote on them.
Also on our To-Do list: (1) Paper Ballots for every election. (2) End gerrymandering and redraw all congressional districts after the 2020 census. (3) Make it impossible (or illegal) for highest elected officals to use Twitter for official communication.
I'll think of more, just give me a minute.

(13,081 posts)I'm not sure what the deleted poster said, but I can guess. I had the same thoughts. These are almost completely innocuous statements? These statements don't prove collusion in any meaningful form?
But you ask the important question: If these statements are essentially meaningless, then why did he lie about them? Why did Flynn lie -- over and over again - about whether or not he made those statements?
The only logical answer is: There's more to it. Those statements were so innocuous that virtually any halfway decent defense attorney could have gotten at least a hung jury on whether they "counted" as lies to the Feds.
("Innocuous" is Seth Abramason's word, by the way, and not mine)

(35,843 posts)Mueller knows how to go about this, I have complete trust in that guy.
I'm pretty sure he has a copy of the audiotape that was personally handed to Putin, with Cheeto promising Putin that he would abolish the sanctions if he gets elected. (It was mentioned in the Steel dossier.) quid pro quo.
Also Manafort & Trump made sure that the Republican Party platform had the resolution to help the Ukraine REMOVED from the final draft, before it was published. That was another quid pro quo.
It's going to be very hard to prove that Russians hacked our voting machines, but there are certainly a lot of highly unlikely coincidences in several key swing states. And guess what - those states all suddenly went for Trump at the last minute. Will we ever prove the Russians did it? I don't know know but I sure hope so. Our elections must all be held on paper ballots from now on until we can be sure the Russians have no way to hack the voting machines.
Mueller already has enough to prove conspiracy on Trump and these guys. Obstruction of Justice - yeah he probably has that too. Trump committed perjury when he took the oath of office and swore on the Bible to uphold the Constitution. We're all witnesses.

Michael Flynn said Flynn was prepared to testify that then-candidate Donald Trump instructed him to contact Russian officials during the campaign. That source later clarified that during the campaign, Trump assigned Flynn and a small circle of other senior advisers to find ways to repair relations with Russia and other hot spots. It was shortly after the election, that President-elect Trump directed Flynn to contact Russian officials on topics that included working jointly against ISIS. "

While this is an important distinction at this point, it becomes apparent that they have only charged Flynn with one thing and offered the deal on a slew of other charges so it could go either way.
So right now they have the rat in the trap during transition time. It could very well be that more info will come out which will bring the candidate Trump into the trap
To me, collusion during the campaign is what I want investigated most. Hopefully Flynn has the goods on that
