(17,705 posts)Maybe you have some ideas about how we can bring back a reality-based civil society. If you care to share your thoughts, I would be interested to read them.
In case youre interested, here are links to some people and pegs involved in community peacemaking and reconciliation.

I could not possibly post from a phone. Mine was 8 bucks at Walgreens and folds in the middle.
Good luck to us all.

(36,747 posts)That is the true amount of deplorable, brainwashed, backwash established by Nixon in August 1974.
Those cannot be redeemed.

(15,360 posts)They actually believe and support the shit Donnie Short Fingers and the Retrumplican party is feeding them.
I have a solution for them. It's called prison!
Marengo
(3,477 posts)That's what the election of Donnie Short Fingers has done to me.
I can't find a single redeeming quality in any of the people that voted for and support this fascist shitstain.
They need to be treated like the Vichy French
Marengo
(3,477 posts)Voting for Donnie Short Fingers was not an accident.
It's not like they were walking down the street, tripped, fell into a voting booth and accidentally hit their head on the Trump button.
It was a conscious, premeditated action. They listened to all that hate, bigotry, bullying, racism and fascism and said; "sure, that's the direction I want the country to go"
Fuck every last one of them sideways with a First Edition hard cover copy of Atlas Shrugged.
Marengo
(3,477 posts)Premeditated actions that helped place Trump in office. Refusing to vote against the obvious hate, racism, etc. is just as responsible.

(10,923 posts)They are idiots who do not have a basis in reality. We can only show them by example- first we have to outnumber them in the voting booth. Then perhaps they will see that their well being actually got better when we took more taxes from the top 1%.

(14,565 posts)We'll win everything of consequence as long as Trump remains in the 32% range.
I post on sports message boards every day. Those forums are loaded with right wing morons and you would think it was closer to 92% support based on that sample alone. I'm always thrilled to find out it's still low 30s.

(15,360 posts)Lost on welfare tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires
Lost on Supreme Court
Lost on the fascist judges being packed in the Federal Court
Lost on Muslim ban
Lost on police reform
Lost on consumer protection
Lost on dumping chemical waste in the gulf of Mexico
Lost on the environment
And... we're about to replace a champion of woman's rights in the Senate with a pedophile
And folks wonder why I feel Retrumplican deplorable voters should face prison for what they've done to our country

(675 posts)Every society reaches the point where some sort of 'purge' is necessary otherwise a war breaks out. War has been an all to frequent theme in human history.
I think unfortunately we will come to a point, maybe trump has already forced us there, where we will have to peacefully, re-educate, reform, or restrain a significant portion of that third of society who sees and deals with the world the wrong way.
Luckily the two thirds of us who see things the right way are compassionate and instead of a bloody war we can engineer a peaceful solution.

(45,806 posts)30% of Pubs who still liked him and demonstrated against him being ousted. In fact those same people, if still alive, probably still like him and believe what was done to him was wrong. Con man's approval #s have been slowly falling over the 11 months he's beden in office. We MUST win back the House & Senate and give him the old heave-ho.

(6,916 posts)The best way to un-brainwash the country is for each one of us to go out and tell everyone we know to stop watching Fox and listening to Limbaugh and right-wing radio.
When you go somewhere and Fox is on - walk up to the owner and say something like "I don't want lies like this on while my kids are around, will you please turn off the TV?"
Instead of talking to your family members about politics - tell them how Limbaugh lies. "Remember when Limbaugh said Hurricane Irma was a liberal hoax and then three days later he evacuated without ever correcting himself? He tells lies about politics like that every day."
I know it's uncomfortable. But if you want to un-brainwash people you MUST engage them on propaganda. Friends don't let friends watch Fox or listen to Limbaugh or read Breitbart or other right wing sources.

(10,721 posts)These are folks who will spite themselves if it means hurting persons of color to a greater extent, people who don't care that Trump openly bragged about committing sexual assault, people who believe wholeheartedly in absurdly nonsensical religious notions, etc.
Time is better spent getting involved in local civil rights organizations, raising hell about voter suppression and gerrymandering, increasing turnout among the young and others, raising hell about kleptocracy, etc.

(253 posts)Every deplorable I know here in northern New Jersey, including my family and neighbors, have expressed extreme racist views towards African-Americans & Hispanics. These people are wealthy and educated but as stated above watch faux news and hated the fact that we had an African- American President for eight yrs.
A woman didn't stand much of a chance in their eyes either.
They will never change their racist views & pass it down to their children. They are unreachable and are not able to be reasoned with or changed.

(404 posts)All over the country, Democrats and progressives have been taking over city councils, mayorships, school boards, and country supervisor positions, as well as making inroads on statewide legislative offices. For instance, in Westchester County, just outside of NYC, the Democrats swept all but TWO seats in EVERY city in every council member and mayor race, and while they were Democrat majority already, they had swept out EVERY republican from office, making this a progressive lockdown that will never go back.
This is happening ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
While we will get a big win in 2018 when we retake the senate, the hammer blow will occur when we win the presidency with Kamala Harris, indict every Trump family member, and retake the Senate with a near-60% majority, along with a healthy House majority. At that point, the Republicans will be COMPLETELY spent, and our guys will enact judicial reforms and restructure voting protocols to ensure the GOP remains forever on the outside looking in.
Mark my words! The GOP is definitely snookered, permanently.

(118,356 posts)though after his resignation it was difficult to find people who would admit voting for him
Some diehard Trump supporters will never change their minds
Others will experience inner conflicts; then they'll move to weak support for him; then they'll move to into some "uncertain" position (such as refused-to-answer-pollster or all-politicians-are-crooks); then they'll head for weak opposition to him. This group might well be influenced by friends and neighbors drifting from Trumplandia into saner regions, so take aim at the mushy center

(10,624 posts)When we're back in power, they would cower to us if we act strong and cruel enough. Thankfully, that isn't in our nature.
Personally, I'm just hoping that the failure of Trumpism will permanently discourage a significant number of these people from ever getting involved in the political process again. I'll be more than satisfied for them to slink off into their holes, muttering "it's all rigged". I know we'll never get them to embrace our values.
