One day, two uniformed policemen came into the classroom, looked around, and pointed to me while declaring, We want that boy.
(see article for rest of story)
The simple fact is that Al Franken has been the Senates most effective challenge to Trump and his subordinates. The possibility of any rigging by Roger Stone and his associates should cause all of us to call for a rescinding of the Franken resignation and a prompt and thorough review of all allegations by the Senate Ethics Committee.

(4,425 posts)He was a decent, old school Republican. He wouldnt be electable in the modern GOP.
Frankens defenestration by fellow Democrats is turning into a true disaster.

(3,702 posts)Way way way back in the 90's, I was with a group of college Dems. I was the co-chair of my school's (University of Minnesota Morris) Young Democrats and a bunch of us from across the state road-tripped in 15 passenger van the summer of Clinton's first term.
Hands down that trip was such a freaking horror story - every state we had some shit happen, culminating in being stranded in a rural Pennsylvania truck stop with a broken U-Haul and a few of us (for once not me) deciding that was a good time to talk politics with a bunch of rednecks while waiting for AAA.
We incurred a lot of fees (including backing into our own U-Haul - like jack knifing - with the rental van). So like any good college kids we did what we did best - we hit up our state representatives for $$ to make the trip back home. I got to meet Paul Wellstone (amazing).
Even though we were clearly labeled "Young Democrats", we were politically awestruck enough to be excited to meet both the Dems and Republicans, and shameless enough to ask both for $$. After hearing our tale of woe (magically our 20 hr trip got longer with each telling, but the actual incidents remained the same), Senator Dave Durenburger (R) laughed and helped us out. He was pretty cool.

(37,648 posts)This is spot on. Franken was railroaded, and it was possibly orchestrated. And he didn't grope or harass anyone. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

(2,072 posts)on the part of the Republicans. Tweeden has some obvious credibility issues and if she were, in any way, a part of a setup then the ultimate goal wouldn't simply be to take out Franken, but to ultimately discredit the #metoo movement altogether. They would have no qualms about selling her out. I think they would prefer that we take the lead in pointing out the obvious holes in her account, but if it doesn't happen on their schedule they'll take the lead. So it should give you pause when the likes of Newt Gingrich and Ari Fleischer suddenly come to Franken's defense.

Gillibrand is soooooo very timid. Won't ask Trump to resign. Shudders in fear and throws Franken under the bus. Chicken Little for President!!!!

"VETO MAN comes out to poke Democratic Party over stupid mistake" ain't a headline that'll play well at the State Convention, yanno?
"GOVERNOR NO! says "F*** this s***, Franken got railroaded" is one of those subheads editors consider with regretful shakes of the head.
Yep, giving GOP solons a chance to point out that Democrats fucked up in stuff as fundamental as due process, transparency, and loyalty is a real low-water mark for our Party.
Thanks, you idiots.
