(10,839 posts)This is a phenomenal result. The African American community voted at record numbers, Dems worked their butts off and Republicans did the right thing by either not showing up, writing in a candidate or crossing over to vote for Doug Jones. Women mostly, I suspect.

(2,522 posts)Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
Across the United States, the Democratic Party needs to go far, far out of its way to make sure that each and every person has the right to vote and the ability to vote - and that that vote is counted.
The party must relentlessly fight voter suppression and gerrymandering.

I know that not all of Jones's supporters are poor. Maybe just pick a usual holiday charity, like toys for kids or something?
I know that a lot of people had to jump through hoops to get their votes to count, and I'd love to say thanks somehow.

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake's order to give up her seat in the "colored section."
On Sunday, December 4, 1955, plans for the Montgomery Bus Boycott were announced at black churches in the area.
In December 1964, King and the SCLC joined forces with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in Selma, Alabama, where the SNCC had been working on voter registration for several months.
On 25 March 1965, Martin Luther King led thousands of nonviolent demonstrators to the steps of the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.
During the 1965 march to Montgomery, Alabama, violence by state police and others against the peaceful marchers resulted in much publicity, making Alabama's racism visible nationwide.
The Montgomery Bus Boycott established King as a leader in the civil rights movement in Alabama.

(13,616 posts)Which means we have to fight like Hell to prevent their vote from being stolen in 2018 and 2020. You KNOW they tried it tonight, and they will try it again, but that is where this party needs to put it[s money where it's mouth is and PROTECT THE BLACK VOTE!, and give them a REASON to stick with us. Granted, we know Trump is Trump, but you know the GOP is tuning up Marco Rubio and maybe even Connie Rice to say "hey we kicked the bannons out."

(963 posts)Black voters show up to get a white guy a job. He goes to Washington and forgets to work on their jobs. The saving grace? While Democrats don't make immediate changes, Republicans do, but in the wrong direction. I think the best that black voters can hope for is that things don't get any worse. Such a pitiful choice.

IMHO, goes to show that voters just cant be taking for granted - be we poor/working/middle class people of color OR whiteness - It's not enough to just be the "Not Moore" or the "Not Trump" or (what we've had Wisconsin lately) the "Not Walker."
