Alabama bans texting/internet use while driving.

Starting Wednesday morning,

drivers sending text messages or checking out the Internet on their smart phones
face a $25 fine,
with court costs in some areas adding nearly $200 more, if caught violating a new state law.

edited to add, from another page of same story:
In April, Alabama became the 38th state to pass a bill against
drivers writing, reading or sending text, email and instant messages.

Law enforcement officials start enforcing the law on Wednesday.

Well, duh..makes sense to me.

Edited to add this jawdropper:
OMG...I just found this:
Entering a phone number and talking on the phone will still be legal. Using a GPS navigation device will be legal
but programming it while driving will not.

Admittedly I do not drive much anymore, in this small town, but the few grocery store hops I make, I stll see cell phone use in other cars.
However, seeing as how so many towns are in need of money, I am sure traffic stops will happen.

Another reason for cops to pull people they don't like or don't like the looks of over and search their cars.

I get pulled over for not wearing my seatbelt (Which I always wear) about every two or three days. Guess I'm going to have to start leaving for work an hour earlier than I do to make up for the new stops. That I don't own a cell phone won't make much difference.

Edited to add: And at least the seat belt ticket is cheap. When they want to be an asshole and I get one of these it's going to suck.
