David Petraeus, former top U.S. general, pleads guilty to misdemeanor in leak of classified data

Source: New York Daily News

Former CIA head David Petraeus cut a plea deal Tuesday for providing his mistress with eight binders of top-secret material while she was writing a fawning biography.

The 62-year-old ex-Army general, considered a rising political star before the sex scandal, dodged a high-profile trial by pleading to a single misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal of classified material.

The charge carries a possible one-year prison term, along with a $100,000 fine and five years of probation. The deal was reached in federal court in Charlotte, N.C. — hometown of ex-mistress Paula Broadwell.

Prosecutors — as part of the agreement — recommended two years probation rather than any prison time as the last chapter in Petraeus’ shocking fall from grace, the Justice Department announced.

probation and a wrist slap fine

One law for Petraeus, another one for Kiriakou, it seems. Today's "justice" depends entirely on whose ox is gored.

with solid facts of his transgressions.

Even General Ward got a fine of $82,000 for overspending.

This is such a slap on the wrist and demonstrates the two tier justice system - how being connected, rich and powerful always means you get off relatively unscathed.

had stepped down from the CIA. The FBI seized them in April 2013. He lent them out to her. She could have copied them and delivered this info all over the world--or held them for blackmail-- if she had been so inclined. Amazing what men will do for hot-young-girlfriend sex.

Petraeus reaches plea deal with Justice Dept.

<<Among the mass of sensitive information contained in the books were the "identities of covert officers, war strategy, intelligence capabilities and mechanisms, diplomatic discussions … and deliberative discussions from high-level National Security Council meetings, and discussions with the president of the United States.''

Also contained in the "black books'' was national defense information, including secret code word information….

The court documents also state that Petraeus lied to FBI agents Oct. 26, 2012, when they questioned him at CIA headquarters. Asked about his handling of classified information, Petraeus stated that he "had never provided any classified information to his biographer and he had never facilitated the provision of classified information to his biographer.''….

After acknowledging the affair and resigning from the CIA in 2012, Petraeus signed an agency "security exit form,'' in which he assured authorities that there was "no classified material in my possession, custody or control at this time.''…>>

Repubs didn't want him investigated/prosecuted AT ALL, so everyone will let Gen P. slide.
