McConnell to states: Don't comply with EPA climate rule

Source: The Hill

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is urging state officials not to comply with the Obama administration's signature climate rule.

McConnell, a stringent opponent of the regulation, said states should not submit a design plan for limiting carbon pollution from existing power plants.

"The regulation is unfair. It's probably illegal. And state officials can do something about it; in fact, many are already fighting back," McConnell said in an op-ed published in the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The rule, which the EPA is working to finalize this summer, requires states cut carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.

I read the entire op-ed on my e-edition this morning. The newspaper editorial board is quite progressive; as Lexington is as a whole.
They constantly publish republican talking points in their Letter to the Editor section, where some the vile racist, bigoted, homophobic, bible thumping backward assed over the hill dumber than dirt letters are published. Within a few days a section will be devoted to letters debunking their talking points, while suggesting they turn off the hate radio and Fox. Followed by a bunch of angry right wing letters mad that the paper is left leaning and biased. Yes it is. At least the editorial board. But with the righties complaining about the left wing Lexington paper they continue to let yahoos like McConnell to publish regularly along with our tea bagger representative.
The paper seems to be teeing both Barr and McConnell up for a big defeat, by letting them repeat talking points that are ten or more years old........but alas it is Kentucky, my beloved, Commonwealth, will likely take generations.

I think no one should vote for repubs because it's unfair and probably illegal. See, my statement makes every bit as much sense as his. Unfair to whom? Illegal by what standard? You can't just say it's probably illegal just because your handlers don't like it.

Sounds like the Dems need to get a good lawyer and make this stick. Permanently.

McConnell is an idiot. If what I read is true, he just finalized his impeachment.

The rules in question aren't yet final. And the proposed deadline for states to submit compliance plans (tied to the expected date on which the rules will become final) is Summer of 2016 (moreover, accordin to the EPA proposal, these can be complete plans or initial plans with requests for 1- or 2-year extensions. Finally, the EPA has stated that it will be in a position to issue a final federal plan for meeting Clean Power Plan goals in areas that do not submit plans, which seems to suggest submission of a plan won't be mandatory when the final rules are adopted.

As I said, this whole thing seems a bit weird

The Republicans are no longer a political party. Political parties work within a respected system and participate in the political process.

Instead, they have become a domestic radical insurgency.

Zero...

The Republican majority does not deserve to get paid for having thumbs up their asses and doing nothing to help Americans but favoring the corporations.

As a result, I will file an objection to the IRS to disburse my tax dollars to Congress until the Republican majority is out.
