A man who just recently moved to Dallas from Iraq was shot dead as he was taking photos of the first snowfall he had ever seen, police said.

Authorities are investigating the death of Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, who was killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex late Wednesday night.

Al-Jumaili only moved to America three weeks ago, according to a fundraising page set up by friends.

The Dallas Police Department said that the shooting took place at 11:40 p.m., when Al-Jumaili and his wife were taking photos of the snow. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.

According to ABC affiliate WFAA, witnesses told police that a group of men randomly started firing a gun and some nearby cars were also hit.

What a convoluted issue for me. I come out of the box swinging against bigotry of any kinds finding myself defending Muslims, initially. But then I am reminded of what I have said so often about Evangelical Christians and their intolerance, bigotry, sexism, misogyny and homophobia to find it a drop in the bucket compared to the intolerance, bigotry, sexism, misogyny and homophobia in the Muslim world. Political correctness again gone out of control as we see with the Hicks case. Though I do understand the necessity of it from those on top like the President who must play the game or here in Texas we would not only have a bounty on just Indians and Mexicans, but Muslims as well.

Mar 2015

"According to The Dallas Morning, Ahmed El Cumayli, a 36-year-old Iraqi man has been shot and killed while taking photos of snow with his family in Dallas. He was taken to hospital but could not be saved despite all efforts.

It has been reported that Cumayli came to US from Iraq around 20 days ago. Cumayli's father-in-law Muhammed Altae said that Cumayli wanted to find a job to start a new life. Altae added "Our only wish was to live in a safe neighborhood, however, what he found was a bullet inside his heart."

Dallas police began to investigate the incident while Jeff Cotner, from Dallas Police Department, emphasized that they will take "prejudice" into consideration.

Meanwhile, the Council on American-Islam Relations has called for a detailed investigation into whether "religious prejudices" played a role in the murder"

...............

Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, was taking pictures of the snow with his wife and brother around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday when he was shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex, police said.

Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, was shot and killed in Dallas on Wednesday. Activists, citing the recent killings of three Muslims in North Carolina, said they fear the attack may have been a hate crime. (Dallas Police Department)
The victim yelled out "I'm hit," and fled to his nearby apartment, but he died of his injuries less than an hour later, according to Dallas Police Maj. Jeff Cotner.

Al-Jumaili, who arrived in Texas from Iraq and reunited with his wife in the past month, had never seen snow before.

"Just like all of us, a pretty snowfall brings the child out in us," Cotner said during a news conference Friday. "And you can just imagine the excitement between his wife, and his brother and himself."

The stretch of Audelia Road between Walnut and Skillman used to be a fairly peaceful neighborhood. I remember visiting one of the apartment complexes along that stretch, where I purchased a Prophet 600 synthesizer from a very nice musician who lived there.

For whatever reason, many of the businesses in that area started going belly-up, resulting in a lot of abandoned storefronts. New businesses are trying to move in and pick up the slack, but whenever I drive through that area of town, more often than not I'll see someone getting arrested for God knows what. There have been beatings, shootings, and all sorts of mayhem, but usually not on Walnut, which sits on the northern edge.

I grew up only a couple of miles away from that area in Garland. The intersection of Walnut and Audelia is close to the border between Garland and Dallas. Richland College, where I'm currently taking a statistics class, is in that general area as well.

But you know, the thing it was really about was not mentioned. GUN ENTHUSIASTS. Hicks openly carried a 9mm in a holster for all the neighbors to see and be frightened of. He had 12 guns in his apartment including an AR15 and a ton of ammo.

Texas teen sentenced to 38 years for murdering Iraqi immigrant

DALLAS | BY LISA MARIA GARZA

A Dallas jury sentenced a teenager to 38 years in prison on Tuesday for murdering an Iraqi immigrant as he took family pictures while experiencing snow for the first time.

Nykerion Nealon, 19, was convicted on Monday of fatally shooting Ahmed al-Jumaili, 36, in March 2015 in the parking lot of his apartment complex.

Al-Jumaili had only been in the United States for about three weeks and authorities had thought the case might have been a hate crime. They later determined Nealon did not know al-Jumaili's ethnicity and said he may have been trying to retaliate for a shooting at his girlfriend's apartment.

Prosecutors said Nealon, who was 17 years old at the time, fired 14 rounds from an AK-47, striking al-Jumaili, who was in the snow with members of his family, once in the chest.
