American in Sierra Leone tests positive for Ebola

Once again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating potential exposures of American citizens to Ebola in West Africa

On Friday, an American volunteer healthcare worker in Sierra Leone, who tested positive for the Ebola virus, was returned to the United States by medevac and admitted to the National Institutes of health Clinical Center for care and treatment.

As a result of this case, the CDC is conducting contact tracing of individuals in Sierra Leone, including several other American citizens, who may have had potential exposure to this index patient.

At this time, none of the individuals have tested positive for Ebola. They include volunteers in the Ebola response effort, who are currently being monitored in Sierra Leone.
