Official: United flight turns back after unruly passenger yells 'jihad'

Source: CNN

Dulles, Virginia (CNN)A United Airlines flight made a U-turn in the sky after a passenger ran toward the cockpit screaming "jihad, jihad," according to a government official with direct knowledge of the incident.

There is nothing, so far, in the man's background to suggest he has a connection to terrorists, the government source said. His mental state at the time is unknown, and no weapons were found after he was subdued.

Still, his words are alarming, coming at a time when the United States and its allies have been targeted by Islamist extremist groups like ISIS, and with memories of the September 11, 2001, hijackings of four U.S. commercial airliners still etched in many Americans' minds.

The incident started shortly after United Flight 1074 took off around 10:15 p.m. Monday from Dulles International Airport in suburban Washington.

If he had cried out "banzai!!!" or "geronimo!!!" it would have never been reported. But "jihad" is red meat for the fear mongers.

or "Go Joe!" or "its morphin' time!" it would have been reported as it was. But he yelled out Jihad, so it's going to be a story.
And if we were having a world-wide problem with "teenagers with attitudes", it'd be more of a story.

when any type of incident is caused by a non-white individual.

If we went 5 years without a single "incident" while our highways and bridges continue to go to shit, what do you think would happen to the public's appetite for paying billion$ in tax dollars for the privilege of having their privacy violated, and so we can kill anonymous brown people collecting firewood 10,000 miles away?

I can dig up any number of instances in recent years when an unruly passenger has been restrained by other passengers. The circumstances vary -- maybe the guy screams "this plane is going to crash" and starts trying to bolt. Maybe the passenger actually tries to open the plane's exit door while in flight. All sorts of circumstances -- what they have in common -- they get reported by the media and the reports describe whatever behavior led to the passengers subduing the unruly one.

Here's one from 2005:http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/01/26/airplane.struggle/index.html?iref=newssearch
Here's one from 2006:http://www.cbsnews.com/news/passenger-subdued-on-la-to-dc-flight/
Here's one from 2008:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/18/AR2006081800080_pf.html

And so on and so forth. Those claiming that these things only get reported when the person subdued says something suggesting he might be Muslim (whether he is or isn't) are full of shit. And I suspect they know it.

that does really dumb things.

What a shame all the other passengers, not to mention the crew, had to be inconvenienced by this.

The pilots told air traffic controllers that after the passenger began acting violently, other passengers subdued him, according to LiveATC.net, which provides audio of air traffic control transmissions.

A cell phone video shows the man, bruised on his face, held down by other passengers.

At one point, he pleads, "Please stop, please stop, they said call it off." At another, the man seems to cry as he says, "I'm so sorry."

"Don't move," one passenger says, apparently trying to calm the man. "You're OK. We're going to get you off this plane, buddy."

there's no indication in this article that the person was definitely a Muslim (could be a non-Muslim nutter or a non-Muslim having some other problem), or that "rich clowns" from "first class" did anything wrong in subduing him.

That's pretty fucked up to inject class warfare into this, like anyone on a plane is automatically a "rich clown."

I was serious--I'm glad the "let's roll" culture lives on, and that people don't cower in fear and expect someone else to take action in these situations.

British Airways Flight Reportedly Forced To Land Because Of 'Smelly Poo'

It's said that he who smelt it dealt it, but in this case everyone smelt it -- and it was so bad an airplane was forced to make an emergency landing.

A British Airways flight that was traveling to Dubai on Thursday night instead returned to England when a "smelly poo" in the toilet made continuing to the final destination untenable, according to the Mirror.

The cause of the unplanned landing was revealed by British politician Abhishek Sachdev, the Hertsmere councilor who represents Potters Bar Parkfield in England.

The decision to turn back came just 30 minutes into the 7-hour flight, the Telegraph reports.

do NOT yell "Hi, Jack!".

Also, while on a plane, the word "awesome" is preferable to the phrase "da bomb".
