Mesa, Arizona Shooting: At Least Four People Shot; Suspect on the Loose

At least four people were shot at at least two locations in the Arizona city of Mesa on Wednesday, and the suspect is still on the loose, police spokesman Esteban Flores said. A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

Police said the suspect is a white male in his 40s wearing black pants and a grey shirt. He has a tattoo on his neck, police added. Authorities believe he acted alone.

Paramedics were treating four people at one location near a light rail station, the Arizona Republican newspaper reported.

I was going to the store this morning & caught the 40 bus on Main just west of Dobson. Then the driver announced that he had to take a detour due to a police blockade because 4 people were shot & the gunman was still at large. I got off on Alma School & Main, just past the blockade. Police cars were everywhere & a helicopter was circling overhead, but the pedestrians around didn't seem the least bit concerned. I rushed to the store & stayed there until the gunman was caught.

Police were seen searching cars and buildings near Longmore, an apartment complex on Emelita and another apartment building at Dobson and 8th Ave.

A police source said one of the victims was a maintenance worker at an apartment complex near Emilta Avenue and S. Longmore.

Police are looking for a White man in his 40s with a neck tattoo, wearing a gray shirt and black shorts or pants. Do not approach him if you see him; call 911.

DPS is sending its SWAT team out to the incident command post near Dobson and Alma School.

Police have not released photos of Giroux. He was described as 5 feet 7 inches, 190 pounds, and bald, with tattoos on his head, neck, and face. KPNX says Giroux was released from Arizona prison, where he was connected to white supremacy groups, in 2013. He was incarcerated for five years for a number of charges, including second degree burglary and marijuana possession, according to KPNX. Witnesses said Giroux was wearing a gray shirt and black pants or shorts at the time of the shooting.
