UN: Prosecute ISIS for Genocide

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations said on Thursday Islamic State forces may have committed genocide in trying to wipe out the Yazidi minority in Iraq as well as war crimes against civilians including children.
In a report based on interviews with more than 100 alleged victims and witnesses, the U.N. Human Rights Office urged the U.N. Security Council to refer the issue to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute perpetrators, including foreign members of the ultra-radical insurgent group.
Iraqi security forces and affiliated militias "may have committed some war crimes" while battling the insurgency, including killings, torture and abductions, the report said.
"Clearly international war crimes and crimes against humanity and possibly genocide appear to have been committed during this conflict. The genocide part relates particularly to the Yazidis," Hanny Megally, chief of the Asia, Pacific, Middle East and North Africa branch of the U.N. Human Rights Office, told a news briefing in Geneva.

(16,423 posts)They believe that they are fighting in the apocalyptic end-times. They believe that the army of "Rome" will try to defeat them, led by the Anti-Christ. There will be an epic battle in a region of Syria(?) that ISIS controls right now, I forgot the name. And at the brink of defeat the Anti-Christ will be slain and the good guys win.
ISIS has no reason to stop and they won't stop: This is the last battle against evil.
I see the best option in undermining the caliphate-propaganda:
- If IS is not on the road to victory, if the IS does not control territory, then it cannot claim to be the new caliphate and it will lose members.
- Use aerial bombings instead of ground-troops. Deny them ground-battles, especially in that region where the final battle will happen. And DON'T get non-muslim ground-troops involved. They could be seen as a metaphor for a new "Rome" in IS-propaganda.

(39,405 posts)And make sure our allies like the Saudis stop as well.
All they are good for is turning more countries into Somalia or Afghanistan.
Only benefit to the United States is giving defense contractors an excuse to sell more weapons
